Dinosaur book recommendations? « Thread Started on Mar 4, 2012, 4:04pm »
wow im the first to put a theread in this section.
What dinosaur books do you recommend? i have a lot, but most of them date from the 90s and 80s, only a few are up to date.
EDIT - It would be especially helpful if links to Amazon could be provided in this thread when possible as it saves those interested having to search. Especially if there is no author details because sometimes different books have the same title. Thanks, Admin

Does anyone have any recommendations for books with good artwork? I have"DINOSAURS: The Most Complete, Up-to-Date Encyclopaedia for Dinosaur Lovers of All Ages" but I don't like Luis Rey's artwork.
Also, on the topic of illustration, does anyone know what book this one comes from? I found this on the Internet. Yes, it is outdated, but I like it. I posted a request before but no-one answered.

Scott Sampson's "Dinosaur Odyssey" is a great book and only came out last year or so. It mostly discusses the ecology of the Mesozoic as opposed to "just" dinosaurs. There is also Greg Paul's "Field Guide to Dinosaurs" that was also released recently and has tons of great art work and skeletal drawings. His classifications are a bit off but otherwise it is a fairly useful book and again...up-to-date. As for art books look into "Feathered Dinosaurs" and "Dawn of the Dinosaurs". The previous one is entirely a coffee table type book with some of the best renderings I've seen of feathered dinosaurs. The later is about life in the Triassic specifically but has incredible artwork by Doug Henderson (my personal favorite).

This is my book collection
Dinosaurs: The Most Complete, Up-to-Date Encyclopedia for Dinosaur Lovers of All Ages - It has good information but like I said earlier, Luis Rey's art style is not my cup of tea.
In The Presence of Dinosaurs- Lovely artwork, not really very informative though. Mostly just a coffee table book.
Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs- My favourite. The watercolour illustrations are beautiful.
The Ultimate Dinopedia- A kid's book, but I rather like it. Artwork is nice too. Here's a sample of the artwork-
Dinosaurios- Now this one is just weird...look at this hilariously bad raptor
Also I have this one, but it's not a dinosaur book per se...

it comes in different covers now. It is another good one for dioram-inspiring. Although it screwed up the Oligocene (there's a Megacerops in there! WHY!?).

It would be especially helpful if links to Amazon could be provided in this thread when possible as it saves those interested having to search. Especially if there is no author details because sometimes different books have the same title. I started editing some of the posts where links weren't provided, but it would be easier if posters in this thread simply included links in the first place I've added this request to the first post in this thread.

I would also HIGHLY recommend Scott Sampson's "Dinosaur Odyssey". If there was ever a better book about paleontology, ecology, and the wonder's of discovery, this is the book. Favourite of all time!

I would highly recommend the following:
A Field Guide to Dinosaurs: The Essential Handbook for Travelers in the Mesozoic By Henry Gee & Luis Rey http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005X4F....ASIN=B005X4F882 Fascinating book with excellent illustration and interesting content. It treats dinosaurs as if they're still alive (hence the title).
Scholastic Dinosaurs A to Z By Don Lessem & Jan Sovak http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0439165....ASIN=0439165911 My go-to guide before Greg Paul's came out. Includes many fragmentary/questionable species other guides skip. Not super up to date, but still good. Not a ton of illustrations.
More to come...
