What replicas would you like see?
« Thread Started on Dec 16, 2010, 4:04am »

So I've been trying my best to sculpt some scale replicas of prehistoric creatures that have rarely (if ever) been made. My hope is to eventually be able to reproduce them and sell them to who ever wants one. So far I've made a Monolophosaurus(on a stand, orange with a yellow belly, red crest and upper back, black "spiderweb" pattern over all), a Prionosuchus (the biggest amphibian ever! - unpainted), and an Excalibosaurus (ichthyosaur - in the works). Before I continue I wanted to get a feel for what species you would like to see made.

Do note that I am in no position to start selling these figures right away. I will probably start in earnest some time early next year.

I'll post pictures of my creations in a new thread as soon as I can; which could be a while. I'm no where near as good as some of the other people on this site, but I believe I'm at least as good as some of Procon's models.

So, what do you want me to make? ;D

I need someone to make a good brontothere (Megacerops). So you should do that one.

Perhaps an Elasmotherium or Uintatherium would be cool as well as Seans reccommendation of a brontothere....
No-one seems to be making any good mammals this year....

Toxodon, Moropus or Chalicothere, Hyaenodon and Deinotherium. We need more non-mammoth mammals!

I'd like to see a good Meyerasaurus, having written an article about it (well, about its renaming, taxonomy and such). This is not to suck up to Adam, honest... ;D

Or a Rhomaleosaurus cramptoni. I know Collecta are releasing one, but I mean a really high quality model a la the Favorite Desktop series. That would be awesome.

Edited because I failed to read the first post properly.

BASILOSAURUS!!!! similar to scale to the prehistoric life line from safari, leedsicthys and titanicthys would be cool as well. some other suggestions, entelodont of some sort, carcharodontosaurus (it's been done by wild safari, but thats the only one as far as I know), ambulocetus, cymbospondylus, cameroceras (sp?), and megaloceras

Wow, so I guess most of you want mammals, in particular a brontothere; Megacerops sounds good and I'll make that next. Although I'd love to make a Basilosaurus (1:40!), I'll have to wait until I get more materials. Here is a link to the photos of what I've made thus far:

I really like the monolophosaurus, if you make the basilosaurus I just might have to buy it off of you......or steal it ;D

Sculpey clay. The final product I sell will most likely be some sort of rubber.

Forgot to mention, the Prionosuchus's paint job is incomplete.

And about the Megacerops, should it be in 1:40 (about 2.5 inches long) or 1:20 (about 5 inches long)?

Definitely 1:20 scale. I am certain most would agree with that sir!

Um, Megacerops is almost 2.5in tall not long in 1/40 scale and in 1/20 would be 4.9in tall. The real one was 2.5m in height. It would be around 5in long in 1/40 scale and of course 10in long in 1/20 scale!

:) Yes in 1/40 scale an inch equals a meter.

Thanks for catching my mistake, that could have been a fatal error! ;D This brings me back to the main question, still 1:20 (10 inches long) or 1:40 (5 inches long). I tend to lean toward 1:40 so it will display well next to most dinos, but that's just my personal opinion.

I've also decided that I can't resist making a 1:40 Protosphyraena. :) A prehistoric "swordfish".
