Hi there, I'm new to the forum. I plan on making a few purchases, but I can't seem to find any definitive list showing which models are the best reviewed. Anyone know a good place to start, or have suggestions?
Thanks.

Try the newer safari dinosaurs. They are great and relatively cheap, and the best on the market as of now.

You really liked that one, didn't you? ;D Welcome dan, as CT pointed out, the new Safari products are the best right now. If you're into weird creatures, you might like the Triassic creatures done by Bullyland

Carnegie has some great sculpts of popular Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals. If you're looking for diversity, try Procon (CollectA)
Welcome!

Anything in particular looking good in Safari? I like the Apatosaurus, Velociraptor, and Tapejara, but the rest (and presumably older) ones fail to interest me. As for Carnegie, I own the entire collection, aside from the few most recent ones. Their upcoming Spinosaurus shows promise. www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=421601/740.0.33307.4777.33338.0.0Procon has a nice Tyrannosaurus and Styracosaurus. The rest don't seem all that wonderful. Come on, guys. Get hardcore. I need the real stuff, and I need it bad.

Some people like Battats, but they're long out of production. The Toyway WwD figures were decent, but again, out of production; the Toyway BMNH line is not worth discussing. Kinto Favourites are decent, but can be tough to find. Schleich is...not as good as Schleich thinks it is. Papo spends a lot of energy on detailed sculpts, but their actual accuracy is hit or miss. CollectA (formerly Procon) has a wide variety, but the sculpts are highly variable. Safari and Carnegie are probably the best currently available overall--good selection of animals, well done sculpts, good accuracy. That's pretty much it for major toy dino lines (oh yeah, Bullyland--some cool Triassic stuff, some other good figures). That's pretty much it. Is there a line that you want us to tell you to buy? How about hunting down the complete Kaiyodo Dinotales line. Small figures, but very well done.

Those are the best of the line IMO. Safari has produced several beauties: the Scutosaurus, the Tapejara, the Postosuchus, the Dunkleosteus (my favorite), the new Triceratops, the new Stegosaurus. Kinto Dinostoreus have very good pieces too.

Alright, I'll look into those. I was still surprised that no one's compiled a Top 20 List or something. I was hoping to acquire a few absolute gems, if anyone is willing to discuss their favorites.
So far, I've ordered the Papo Allosaurus, because it's the most freaking beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. Don't tell my girlfriend.

As always, I first recommend Invicta ;D They´re all gems. But I would develop an own style of collecting instead of watching what others may love. I collect what I love, no matter what company or style.

What's so great about Invicta? I found their diplodocus in one of my boxes. Would have been impressive thirty years ago.

Well, absolute gems like the WwD Liopleurodon you won't find easily And no, we don't have a top 20, we all like different figures.

I only found a few pictures from the WwD line, but the photos weren't that great. Are they good models? I was hoping for something I might actually have a chance of acquiring.

There's the Fauna Casts line of models: You may want to check out Dinonikes' Toy Line thread.

Yes, I'm already working on an order with him.
Is Fauna still in production?

The best thing you can do is go looking at pics. Bokisaurus has quite a few of his collection. Individual tastes are SO varied. The Kinto favorites are gems to me. The WS 08 stego too. It is like the only figure I have not customized. I also like Bully's new stego quite a lot.
Invicta are sweet, but an acquired taste. They are retro, but that is part of the charm for me. Battats are nice, but hard to get without spending a lot. WWD is a nice line. They are very accurate, but also very static, just standing looking straight ahead.
I personally love the Paposaurs too. You might also look into the X-Plus styraco and albertosaurus. I quite like them. They are pretty good sized, and affordable. Try Monsters in Motion. Less than 20 bucks each. The Kinto Favorite are still in stock at healthstones. They have all of them, and assure me they have plenty.

Healthstones is terribly overpriced, but I did manage to scoop up an X-Plus Albertosaurus on eBay for about $15. Is that a good deal?

It's not just healthstones that is overpriced. All kintos seem to be that way.

Well, I meant Healthstones is generally overpriced. Like selling a statue for 80 when you can get one on eBay for half that.

Healthstones sells the Kinto favorite for the same price as anywhere else. The sauropods are 20, everything else is less. Most are less than 15. More than I would like, sure, but they are wonderful figures. I don't do the statue thing, so have little opinion on it. I HATE e-bay with a burning, firey passion, so I rely on the on-line stores.
Oh, and Monsters in Motion sell the X-Plus styraco and alberto for 17.99 each, plus shipping and tax. They are pre-painted ones. The ones I have were not painted, which suits me fine. If you are happy with it, then it is a good price. I was surprised by their actual size and detail. And, that alberto, at 17, is bigger and cheaper than Carnegie's new spino will be, and less than most Papo's too. Just saying. On the other hand, it is hollow, and suffers from some warpage.
