I was looking at the packaging on the new NHM figures by Toyway earlier today in the shop.
There is a checklist on the box listing the whole set followed by a list of blanks. It says "many more to come" or something to that effect. There is a colour key indicating plant eaters, meat eaters, and marine reptiles.
double take! marine reptiles!?
Why would they add a blue dot indicating marine reptiles if there are none in the set? Seems likely that we have some Toyway NHM marine reptiles to look forward to in the future...

Why would they add a blue dot indicating marine reptiles if there are none in the set? Seems likely that we have some Toyway NHM marine reptiles to look forward to in the future... But what's the use? Most of them are fugly We need more figures a la WwD. 1) As seems to be the case with much of Toyway's dino lines, they seem to have stalled (shades of Kinto Favourites?). I remember talking to someone about them--they were expecting a huge variety, so marine and flying reptiles were probably on the horizon BUT 9and this leads into point two)... 2) Toyway is terrible with distribution. They seem to come out with these potentially sought-after lines, and then market them solely in the UK. At which time, the market is apparently not strong enough there alone, they call it a failure, and end it. How can this be? Well, what figures do you remember from Series Two of the WwD figures? The Opthalmosaurus. That's the only one they ever released. There was supposed to be a European Iguanodon (scrapped because the American one didn't sell well), an Ornithocheirus (scrapped because it was too large for the packaging--it was a big one, with wings out, that they eventually released in limited numbers to subscribers of some obscure magazine--and if that one ever shows up on Ebay, I am willing to bet that it will outshine any Battat auction by a factor of 10). And others (I'm guessing there may have been a Placerias whose mold was later used by a Chinese company). There was also supposed to be a Ww Beasts line--that never even got off the ground. I'm afraid that with ToyWay, it's not worth getting involved long-term--they certainly don't.

thelordsgym once told me that someone did auction one of the Ornithocheirus and that it did sell for a pretty penny. Actually the released Iguanodon is the European one, isn't it? Anyway, the new NHM line is just a big failure, and not only because of the sucky marketing.

I might have it switched in my head--it has been a long time since I even looked at that figure. Either way, one of them did not get released (I believe the colour patter of the hollow Wild Republic figure is fairly similar to the unreleased pattern of WwD Igunanodon, but I could be wrong, and am not invested enough to really go check).

Actually the released Iguanodon is the European one, isn't it? I think the American version of WwD shown on Discovery is different from the BBC Kenneth Branagh version, and IIRC they switched the iguanodons (i.e. the ornithocheirus was flying to the Americas from Europe, instead of the other way around)

The WwD I am familiar with is the British version--I always make sure to purchase the British version of every BBC show (Walking with Beasts is an example of how egregoius changes can get made as it crosses the Atlantic).
