great collection,,got a few to.. looking for the tarpit and the sabertooth the big bird,,and the cave last week i saw on ebay some aurora kit's for about 10 dollar.. very cheap Yeah, I saw those on eBay as well. Certainly a few good deals there. The ones with boxes though usually go for a lot more than $10.00, as they should. Are you looking for them loose or complete with box? Luckily for you, a couple of those you are looking for are somewhat on the lower price scale of what some of the others can go for. The Swamp and Giant Bird though can command some nice prices depending on condition. The ones I still need are now just different foreign boxed versions where the foreign box variations if and when they may pop up for sale usually go for some very serious coin

I do on occasion sure. Especially when I would like to paint a model and would rather not use a mint complete Aurora version to mess around with. The re-issues are from the same Aurora molds just molded in a different color (along with a different company name and copyright printed on the body of course), so I am in essence getting the same model. Once it is painted it is pretty hard if even possible to tell a re-issue apart from an original Aurora, so a finished painted re-issue model looks right at home on display even with an original Aurora model.

At the time back in the early 70's these were not only a huge hit but were considered more accurate than previous Dinosaur models as they actually conformed to recent scientific thinking of the time. Well yes, of course, but you've got to see this from the perspective of someone born in 1987, who grew up with dynamic, post-dinosaur-renaissance dinosaurs. To me these look decidedly retro, although in the good rather than bad way (bad being the 'Chinasaurs' which were still prevalent in the early '90s). That said, even for the 1970s, the fanged ceratopsians are very silly. But loveable. They remind me of my favourite 'theme park'* in the UK which also got its dinosaurs in the 1970s. (With apologies for the giant image.) *Inverted commas 'cos it's not really a theme park. It's just a weird...place full of fibreglass models. Also, but that we had toy stores shaped like castles. Ours are just shaped like warehouses. Or are Hamleys.

i don't mind the boxes,,just de models I think part of what still excites me even today about these models besides the memories and nostalgia is the artwork on the boxes.

I have to admit I find these threads to be somewhat heartbreaking, because I had in my youth meticulously collected every single one of these models, painted them and put them together on their carefully arranged and connected bases on the family pool table, only to later carefully box them up, where they sat until I went to college. Thereupon my mother gave them away to heaven knows what yahoo, who probably destroyed them playing with them like common toys. *sigh*

its great to see these- my brother and I had a bunch of these when we were kids- cave, tar pit, pterodon, cavemen, allosaurus, 'spiked dinosaur'- wasn't there a cave bear?I remember we had a cave bear model. maybe I am remembering wrong, or maybe another company? Do you like the new 'Auraro style kits that Alchemy is putting out? I saw those in the Prehistoric TImes issue recently-

Yup, there was a Prehistoric Scenes Cave Bear: I haven't really gotten into much of the "what if" models yet as I am still trying to complete my collection of originals first. But I am sure that once I finish I will be looking at the variety of different "what if' models like theirs that they offer.

Very nice, wow! Alot of dedication there.
I find it interesting that the second release boxes deleted the inaccurately placed animals from the scenes -- like removing the Saber-tooth from the Allosaurus box and getting rid of the Allo head from the Neanderthal box, hehe!

And what is interesting is that apparently they did not remove the images due to any inaccuracies of showing one animal/human that didn't exist at the same time with the other, but merely because they didn't want anyone to be mislead that both models came together in that one box It is also interesting to note that in some cases a second issue box not only had the artwork edited but the box was even bigger than it's first issue. This was due to a larger or expanded display base being added.

I think I like the boxes on display as much as any of the built models. Unfortunately I don't have room "yet" to display them all with each of their bases "linked" together. I am working on a bigger display area. Here is a few pics of what I do have out on display at the moment:

Yup, there is a couple of them out there on the web actually but they seem to be kind of quiet lately with out any updates or images. I am also on the Aurora prehistoric Scenes e-mail list but that too has been pretty quiet as of late.

It looks like maybe a flying lizard?
