I remember seeing a Burgess Shale model incased in acrylic (Anomalocaris) on eBay a while back. I remember the seller said it came from the National Museum of Nature and Science (Tokyo). If you go to their site they defiantly have models of fossils from many periods. www.kahaku.go.jp/english/visitor_info/ueno/shop.htmlThe Burgess Shale fossil is not listed but I'm sure they have it. Anyone know of these or have pictures? Anyone know the full set of models they carry? Anyone have a contact there? Cheers

There is a lot of un-tapped dino-collecting potential in Japan...of that's mostly un-tapped by anyone outside Japan..so a lot of great items get made, cease production and vanish only to have the odd one turn up years later..sigh..
You would think they would put pics up on their site...if they have an english section you be able to email them about pics or figure lists you know ?

Found this on the Japanese page. Cost 300 Yen which is about $2.50 USD per ball. The original pdf file can be found here since there is no way of attaching things that I know of (big file): www.kahaku.go.jp/visitor_info/ueno/shop.pdfI'd like 1 to 3 please!

Me too -- I'd really like a Nipponites for my ammonite collection, and it's actually easier to find real fossilized ones than it is to get this replica.

I have one friend in Japan I might give a shout to..maybe he can help us out...but Prehistorics aren't really his thing so I'll just email him and see what he says ok ?
Something like these you might have to actually visit the museum to aquire....just don't want to get everyone too excited that's all. :/

Well I heard back from him..let's see if I can translate his response which was : " Hey buddy, (^^)/ It is a kind of Gashapon. ( It's a trading figure series in machines ) It choose and cannot buy. ( You put money in and get random ones, I think ) However, I go to watching it. ( He will see what he can do this weekend about- (the weekend) (- getting it them for us. ) Please wait a little. " ( give me a little time,.. ) So I'll wait to hear from him, he will do his best to help us I know . The only thing I see is that if he goes there and tries to get them he can do one of two things, buy as many as it takes to get them ( costly ) or wait around and trade/buy from those that do ( time consuming ). Masaaki also might be able to find them from other collectors..but as he said it will take time.

^^^ I don't follow you. My main interest is the Nipponites, but the plesiosaurs would be awesome

The first category is what model number, 1 Futabasaurus, 2 Futaba, 3 Ammonite, the second category is how many are wanted of each number. If you wanted the two plesiosaurs, then the Quantity numbers of 1 and 2 would go up to 3 each.

I hope they open the freaking machine Man, I'm glad I got mine when they came out two years ago (didn't bother with the skeleton). But at least they can still be purchased.
