HG Sega PVC Prize Figure Reference Thread

Morning folks

Having been collecting Sega Prize figures for a while now I thought I'd upload a reference thread for those interested. These figures pop up here from time to time and seem to generate some discussion. They are in short supply but do sometimes turn up on Ebay or obscure US and Japanese stores. Sadly, for me at least, they're costly to get to UK shores but not expensive figures as such ranging from £10 - £15 each for UK buyers.

There's been some confusion over the repaints and I've now figured this one out from the heap of packaging I have here. As Blade has explained elsewhere, these figures were not commercially available as such but were prizes for gaming machines called UFO Catcher (grabber type machines I believe ).

The figures we know of are:

1st version Tyrannosaurus - 3 paint variants.
Triceratops - 4 paint variants.
2nd version Tyrannosaurus - 1 paint version.
Stegosaurus - 1 paint version.
Amargasaurus - 1 paint version.

So, here are the figures I have. Images are in sequence of figure release. I'm sure there are others out there but as yet I've not seen them and have not been able to locate any other info anywhere.

Please excuse my photography. It's not my thing, I hardly ever take pictures and I'm somewhat clumsy at it. I am ably assisted today by Bert the zoo keeper (Britains 1/32 figure)

I've added the sculptor info from the collection thread. Forgot it first time round

Tyrannosaurus Rex - 2003 (1st paint version).
Overall dark blue/brown colour with red patterning on back of head/neck.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.



The Great Dinosaur - Tyrannosaurus Rex - 2004 (2nd paint version).
Overall tan/drab brown with lighter stripes and red highlighted head markings.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.

Overall grey colour scheme with blue, red and black markings to head area.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.

The Great Dinosaur - Triceratops - 2004 (1st paint version).
Overall green paint finish.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.



The Great Dinosaur - Triceratops - 2004 (2nd paint version).
Overall tan paint finish with rust coloured back and frill pattern.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.



The Trike pair.



Vol 2 - Dinosaur King - Tyrannosaurus Rex - 2007 (only known paint version).
Overall red and yellow paint scheme.
This model replaced the original Rex figure.
Sculpt: Shinzen Takeuchi.




2nd view.



Vol 2 - Dinosaur King - Triceratops - 2007 (3rd paint version).
This figure has a very bright paint scheme. It is out there and still available but I don't own it (too bright for me!)


Vol 2 - Dinosaur King - Stegosaurus - 2007 (only known paint version).
Overall green and purple paint scheme with white and pink patterning to plates.
Sculpt: Hirokazu Tokugawa.

Have you ever seen the Dinosaur King Amargasaurus by SEGA ?

I have one image from a convention showing it with the Rex and Trike...I believe it was also shown on the packaging for the boxed Sega figures. I have never seen one for sale anywhere though so I suspect it never release..but it was colorful and HUGE. ;D

I have two types of box packaging although most of these came in bags. Neither box versions have any info about other figures
I wouldn't be at all surprized if there were other figures out there in this series

I suspect there is at least a Spinosaurus , Carnotaurus and perhaps a Parasaurolophus since these were also major characters in the Dino King series.

Maybe also a Saichania/Ankylosaurus and Pteranodon (Ankylosaurus & Pteranodon were not that major in the series but no toy line can go wring with Ankylosaurus & Pteranodon. I also remember seeing a Maiasaura.

The series used just about every major ( and some minor ) dinos in existance...lol

I think I have an in box pic of a Carno but it's really hard to make out..so much so I won't even bother posting it, but it's enough to make me suspect...and there were some smaller figures sold as dio sets I think that had the Carno as part of it.

He's an old Britains Toy zoo keeper figure. Britains human figures were approx 1/32 scale but these are long out of production. I have 3 or 4 of these and will happily donate one to you if you're interested in one

For anyone interested in the Great Dinosaur brown Rex and Green Trike, these are still available in the US. I can't comprehend why they are listed as Arrhinoceratops & Aucasaurus! Creative selling I guess as the packaging says Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus!

Blackdanter, I see you also got the tiny-footed Stegosaurus.

Mironimus-Rex once had the green Triceratops, apparently it's sold out now, but that's where I got mine.

And if only we could all find a good source for the Amargasaurus. Amazing! I don't need all colour schemes of these Sega vinyl figures but definitely all sculpts. Highly addictive!
