So I expect everyone's noticed the Collecta rex had a bit of a makeover. When I got the tail up version, I thought the tail and teeth were the only parts changed - boy was I wrong! After slapping some primer on, more and more differences came popping out. Here are the ones I've found so far: 1: Skin texture changed all over, new version is much less scaly and wrinkly. 2: New version is slimmer and has a more defined, better curved spine. 3: Changed forehead 4: New teeth, reshaped nose and upper jaw. 5: Less scale detail on the head 6: Slightly more crested neck, though it's still thin and wrinkly 7: New claws on hands 8: Feet completely retooled, with new claws and better overall detail 9: Hip bone moved back (was originally in the crotch) 10: And obviously the new tail. Why Collecta went to the trouble of basically resculpting the entire model rather than just making a new one I can't say - maybe they just really liked it and thought it deserved a new lease of life?

Awesome!
Are those prototypes?
In the first pic they look different in size, are they? Or is just the pic?

The new version's more horizontally posed, which means it doesn't look as tall as its ancestor. Other than that the size seems to be the same, though the raised tail looks slightly longer. These are both repaint projects - or rather models that will remain in primer forever because I can't decide on a color... I just did a quick and sloppy black acrylic wash over the primer to bring out the details.

And what about the colour on the original figs? Was there any variation there, or it remained the same?

Can't really help you there, I'm afraid - my old mold has been primered for too long to remember the original color, and frankly I don't pay much attention to original paintjobs unless I really like them. Both were brown with some black stripes and a rather unappealing ochreish color on the belly and sides, that's all I remember.

You should make them... BLACK AND WHITE! That would be the ULTIMATE WIN, especially on the new version.

Interesting, good catch on the this guys ;D I have both version, but never really looked at them closely to see what the difference is, just assumed it was the tail ;D I agree, experimenting on coloring these two black/white would be intereting

Both models in original colors The Tripod rex has larger lines on its back along with a more cocentrated yellow on its side and on the legs While the resculpt has thiner lines on its back and more of a tanish color on its sides. Ps, I found these photos on collecters quest, and if these photos belong to anyone here but dont want them up, please let me know.
