So, I always wanted to collect extant animals too, but I don't have anough money to collect dinosaurs and animals in general. So I decided to get only extant reptiles, because they are my favorite animals. I just got a nice set of dinos on ebay, which happened to have a Safari Salt Water crocodile too. Hope it get here soon. I created this thread to ask if someone here has the Safari reptiles, which are better and if possible, I would like to see pictures of the actual figures. So, what are the best reptiles figures to buy?

Hey, it was about time for a thread like this! Unfortunately I have only very few snake figures. Safari Ltd. Rhinoceros Viper, Bitis nasicornis (approx. life-size and really heavy, length is 76cm). Gloydius halys, Halys Viper by Furuta ChocoEgg Animals of Japan. But what about some other Squamata? Safari Ltd. Translucents "Giant Day Gecko" - although it is obviously no Phelsuma spp. but rather cast from a nocturnal Gekkonid, very likely Gekko gecko. Schleich Iguana, Iguana iguana Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Marine Iguana, Amblyrhynchus cristatus Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Veiled Chamaeleon, Chamaeleo calyptratus Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Frilled Lizard, Chlamydosaurus kingii Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures "Emerald Green Monitor" - obviously cast from a real specimen of some water monitor (and not Varanus prasinus or the like, the tail is laterally compressed and has a dorsal keel) Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Komodo Dragon, Varanus komodoensis Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Walking Crocodile - I guess it is this one that is also labelled as "Salt water Crocodile" but it misses the paired ridges on the snout that are typical for Crocodylus porosus. From the neck osteoderms it looks more like another Nile Crocodile. Oh, and turtles, of course... all of them much cuddlier than the real thing... Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures Alligator Snapping Turtle, Macrochelys temminckii AAA "Snapping Turtle" - another cast from an actual specimen and once again a mislabelled figure, that's a Big-headed Turtle, Platysternon megacephalum Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures (Spiny) Softshell Turtle, Apalone spinifera

One more: Alligator mississippiensis (Daudin, 1802); "Alligator with Babies". Safari Ltd. Incredible Creatures. I thought it'd be a good idea to make a comparison shot of the two Incredible Creatures crocodylians and the Papo Nile crocodile:

Thank you so much brontodocus! Now I'm really going to get those reptiles. I got the Salt Water Croc in a dinosaur lot that hasn't arrived yet, it is in customs, but soon I'll buy the green monitor and those other crocs. Is that rhino snake easy to find? Guess i'm going to Ebay now to check...

Another time I watched one that ended up like €10 or more. But it's not that often that I see one offered.

I haven't been able to find anything on it...Safari really should have a section for past products. I believe it's retail was around 20.00 orig. I couldn't one on eBay for a current price check.
I've also got the big Safari Iguana , Red tailed Boa , black and yellow Kingsnake, and some sort of yellow and orange tree boa that all came out the same time. Did they also make a big varanid ? I have one in storage that is almost 2 feet long with his tail curled and about 12" tall.
That softshell looks great ! Def getting that one..I've had little luck keeping them as pets in the past...so a replica will be just fine.. ;D

I haven't to talked to my current guy in awhile...Tom and Diane from Clawmark Toys might help you out...but they are mostly Godzilla -centric.

I have some Playvisions chameleons, if anyone's interested..one is a Veiled , the others I'm not sure..one is black if I recall and the other is blue.
I also found the momma to that baby coral snake I have up for sale...Safari must have made quite a few of these large pieces at one point ( I would guess the late 90's ) and have since cutback.
I have that same Big head Turtle out in my pond now..lol it's a lot easier to keep than real turtles in there. ;D I think I also have the juvenile one somewhere.
Is there any interest in real Snapping Turtle skulls and a shell around here ? I just bought a sealed and cured shell from a local guy who also had a few skulls..I plan on keeping one but the rest I don't mind selling or trading.
The Green Tree monitor by Safari was orig offered as a Nile Monitor in black with yellow markings...that's the version I have at any rate.

I'd probably be interested in the chamaeleons. Nice to know that the IC monitor was once offered as a Nile Monitor, that was my first guess from which species the specimen was cast. V. prasinus and similar species have tails that are round in cross-section.
