I just won a lot of some Kaiyodo snakes. They look pretty cool. I hope they arrive soon. The lot has a few doubles too, so I may be selling them off.

Thanks, postsaurischian, I still think it's a figure I'll have to get eventually. Recently I received quite a lot of extant reptilian figures, mostly PV and AAA: Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis Gray, 1870; Madagascar Giant Day Gecko. K&M. Length 108 mm, scale approx. 1:2 - 1:2.5. Uroplatus lineatus Duméril & Bibron, 1836; Lined Leaf-tail Gecko. AAA, cast from an actual specimen. Length 229 mm, scale 1:1. Rhacodactylus ciliatus (Guichenot, 1866); Crested Gecko. AAA, cast from an actual specimen. Length 188 mm, scale 1:1. When I kept geckos in the 90s this one was believed to be extinct. Saltuarius (syn. Phyllurus) cornutus (Ogilby, 1892); Flat-tailed Gecko. K&M. Length 97 mm, scale approx. 1:2. Cyclura cornuta Bonnaterre, 1789; Rhinoceros Iguana. Play Visions. Length 108 mm, scale approx. 1:6 - 1:14. Corytophanes cristatus (Merrem, 1821); Helmeted Iguana. Play Visions. Length 111 mm, scale approx. 1:2 - 1:3. Zootoca (syn. Lacerta) vivipara (Jacquin, 1787); Common Lizard. E.L.C. Length 134 mm, scale approx. 1:1. Tiliqua sp.; Blue-tongued Skink. AAA, cast of an actual specimen. Length 483 mm, scale 1:1. Natrix natrix helvetica (Lacépède, 1789); Grass Snake. E.L.C. Length 483 mm, scale approx. 1:2. Bitis gabonica (Duméril, Bibron & Duméril, 1854). Gaboon Viper. Play Visions. Length 189 mm, scale approx. 1:6 - 1:11.

The first time I saw it was also on veghead. And I was sad, too that they don't ship internationally, especially since they wrote they won't ship internationally anymore so they must have had some trouble with int'l orders. I was lucky enough this one popped up on ebay Germany.

While I don't know anything about the series it belongs to, at least I can say the name "Ryukyu Leaf Turtle" is not wrong. That's a juvenile of Geoemyda japonica, sometimes regarded as a subspecies of Geoemyda spengleri. Adult specimens would have much less conspicuous spine-like projections of their scutes, though. Congrats, It's a really beautiful figure!

It seems like you've found a figure of my favourite Kaiyodo miniatures series 'NATURAL MONUMENTS OF JAPAN' that I've never seen before . It's so beautiful and No.48? (I can't really see it). The series was completely produced in 2002 and includes 50 different Japanese species. Throughout the last two years I only managed to get 14 figures. They're very rare and this is the first time I see one of the books each figure came with. All of mine came without the book. Here's a source that is pretty incomplete (but you can see a few of the others): www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ch2m-nitu/kinen.htmVery nice find, copper. I'm envious ;D.

Very nice find, copper! These are just adorable. The list is almost complete - only the Otter / No.49 is missing. Does your Geoemyda japonica have a number under the base? Or is it maybe a secret figure like the blue Cambaroides japonicus or the differently painted Canis hodophilax?
