The Alamosaurus looks great, but I can't see a pic of the other piece. The Angie piece you mentioned..... Never mind I see it now. ;D They both look awesome. Great job. Hope your eye sight isn't going south, from painting these little guys.

Has anybody else received a free Bowie the Bunny with their recent Shapeways orders? It turns out there's a contest to photograph him 'out in the wild' for a chance to win $500 worth of 3D printing.

here is Alamosaurus By Krentz for a customer of mine ,good enough? VEry impressive work on these small models! Wish I had your talent ;D What material are these guys? Are they the WSF or WD? Based on the paint, looks like WSF? Hmmmm, so it seems like head/neck stripes on Alamosaurus is popular ;D The 3 painted one, this one, Angies, and my version all have stripes on thier heads/neck ;D

I got my raz00 Tiktaalik from Shapeways in this condition : Since no one else commented on similar defects I sent Shapeways an e-mail about it. Here's the main sentence of the answer: "I had a look at the file from which we have printed this model, but unfortunately the designer has designed this like you have received it. ....... If I would create a complaint out of this for you and we would arrange a reprint for you, then the same thing would happen again." Has anybody else ordered it in 'white, strong & flexible' and have the same problem? Aren't there any problems with other materials? Shapeways has arranged a coupon for me, so I didn't lose any money, but I'd like to have the Tiktaalik in perfect condition.

I didn't complain, though, since I'm going to paint it, anyways, and I guess I can fix this easily with some putty. BTW: Has anyone received any "Frosted Ultra Detail" models yet? I'm still waiting for a month or so.

Diadectes had a similar problem around the rear legs. These are easy to fill with Milliput (superfine white) putty, bought on eBay. Wet a toothpick to smooth the putty once the gap is filled. I painted mine, but it would look OK unpainted.

Unfortunately I don't know how to repair the problem... The same problem is present at diadectes.... I don´t know why this happens but at least I have talked to a shapeways member who told me to detect this problem so i think it wont happen again. I try to test the models before allowing the orders but sometimes is hard to design for shapeways. Sorry guys

For someone like me, that will neither play with nor paint them, it doesn't really matter. I've got lots of figures with seams and gaps already.

An here I thought I was the only one who had some issues with my Tiktaalik! Here is mine: I just got the Ekrinatosaurus and Agustinia in Frosted Ultra Detail. Unfortunately I am not happy with either one! The Ekrina is okay, but the AGustinia has lots of white powdery stuff all over it! Looks as if someone sand-blasted the poor figure. And no, it won't come off. I will contact them and let them know that I'm not happy by how it turned out. If I was painting it, it won't be such a big deal. But The reason I ordered the second set in Frosted Ultra Detail is to leave them unpainted. I have to say, the detail is a lot nicer on this material. Sorry, no pics this time since I'm busy packing for a backpacking trip! I leave tomorrow for a few days ;D

Got mine a few days ago and didn't look. Looked now and mine only has a small crack near the right fin, otherwise ok. Puttied already. Huh, I deedn't get no steekin' boonie wabbit ;D And I got two orders! A few months ago I got a model railroad diesel body and the surface had a heavy layer of powder all over it obscuring the detail, you could scrape it off with your fingernail! I took closeups and emailed a claim and did get a replacement which didn't have the problem. The first one will get heavily rusted and weathered and end up in a junk pile ;D

I have recieved two of this little guy for free. Are you going to enter the contest? I'm not sure. I have a strong propensity for defeatism when it comes to contests, which tends to result in my never entering anything. What about you?

I also just got my Frosted Ultra Detail Ekrixinatosaurus after 6 weeks of waiting. Quite disappointing - not worth the money and the wait. I feel a bit stupid now because of all these material discussions. This was my first and last UFD order. I'll go back to the roots when I was happy with Shapeways, which means either 'strong & flexible' or 'detail'.

I am still waiting for mine, I have a UPS shipping notification with a delivery estimate for today but here UPS normally comes in the late afternoon... I plan to paint them, anyways, but it's of course still disappointing if they don't come out significantly more detailed than "detail" itself...

You just can't see it. The figure looks like some kind of transparent candy, filled with sugar, so they have to be painted (which I also didn't want to). Shapeways' describtion of the look of the material is not sufficient. One really cannot know what to expect and seriously - the more I pay for a model, the more I have to work on it? That makes no sense to me.

UPS was here... and I think I know what the problem is. Why do they call it " Frosted Ultra Detail"? It seems the basic material is really good and probably has a higher level of detail than the other materials and it's clear. But of course you will see the hollowed parts shining through and their inner walls are opaque. And as I recognized that mainly the underside of the figures has this white stuff boki mentioned I realized it isn't anything that's stuck to the material - it's a transparent material that has been frosted (i.e. sanded or else) to give it a look like ice! I'm afraid we cannot blame shapeways for it but probably the material is not a good choice for dinosaur figures, the effect might perhaps look quite good on jewelry. It seems the frosted areas lose detail, too. I am also wondering why none of us - including me - thought of this prior to ordering... I hope these two photos of the Giganotosaurus' head demonstrate what you can expect: They should really offer the same material without this extra treatment and leave the transparent material like it is. That's so frostrating. ;D Still I think the figures will look great after painting but I agree - if you want them to stay as they are this is not the right choice of material. If you like them transparent I guess "Transparent Detail" is better even though you have to remove sticky excess material from it and I don't know how it will look on hollowed models since I only have David's mini Ankylosaurus in that material. EDIT: This photo demonstrates it better...
