I'll probably eat in the NHM for convenience, a sandwich or something. But it is expensive I think.

Yes, as Dr. Adam says, there's a café, though it's likely to be expensive. (Even bottled water alone is pricey...)

But is the food any good? If not, I might as well save my money for the gift shop. I'm still undecided as to wether it's a good or bad thing that most of the NHM line dinosaur models are atrocious.

I'm afraid I haven't eaten there...
The dinosaur toys aren't spectacular, but the larger main gift shop has a host of other quality things, not least all the natural history books and dvds.

I can't recall if the food is any good, but they did have dinosaur biscuits one time!

We should demand dinosaur biscuits in light of the dinosaur gallery being closed!

I think the food is OK from memory, but a bit pricey, so I'll probably bring a packed lunch.
There is an area downstairs where you can either buy food or eat your own.
BTW, agree about the models for sale, its not the same without the Invictas! Maybe they should team up with Collecta, their models are improving all the time and there's already quite a bit of cross-over with some of the exhibits.
Looking forward to meeting you all on Saturday!

I thought even Papo at the very least would be a vast deal of improvement; even if their figures are not accurate, they are hundreds of times better than the Toyway offerings, plus they have plenty of aesthetic appeal -- I daresay they'd sell out to the visitors in less than no time. And Safari's European distributor is in France. Surely the contact is far from impossible?

Papo, Safari, Collecta...any of them would be great. Not Schleich though, they are already EVERYWHERE...

I thought of Collecta as they are mostly a UK company (aren't they?), albeit with the models manufactured in China. I think its nice when the major museums team up with companies from their own countries, though that's much more difficult these days with globalisation etc..

I just went to the World Museum in Liverpool today. It was a fresh reminder of how awful some of the older Collectas are. And they were charging 18 pounds for the mammoth too. Poor quality dinosaur figures aside, I do look forward to the meeting.

They are indeed UK-based. Which really begs the question of 'why not?' even further.

While it appears that Collecta is indeed improving, most venues still only carry the older figures. Also, I have a 20% off coupon for Dinosaurs Unleashed at the O2. While it's not all too great, it's still fun to point out the inaccuracies of the models to the staff. If anyone wants it, just say so in this thread.

I went to the NHM last week on a school trip, the shop wasn't that good. £2 for a pencil! And the only figures they did were Toyways and the big T-Rex I reviewed for the site.

And then I realised that I'd done the same on Twitter. I went to the NHM last week on a school trip, the shop wasn't that good. You're right, and it's a real shame. The best thing in there (except for the overpriced Favorite skeletons, which are available for literally hundreds of pounds less on Dinosaur Time) is this skeleton-in-a-tube: www.dinotoyblog.com/2011/02/07/parasaurolophus-skeleton-dino-horizons-by-cog-ltd/

See you all tomorrow, folks. I shall be there early to do some sketching then make my way towards the staircase by eleven. That is assuming I manage to finish these um... things... tonight...
