I agree with Blade. I have to say you've really improved quite a bit since your first pieces. I love the detailing on the feet of this guy. (You even detailed in the padding!)

Looks beautiful, Malcom. These are the kind of unique poses that distinguish your line, and I personally enjoy them.

You know what would be even more awesome than just this model? Some kind of connector piece that would make this and your other Tyrannosaurus look like they were part of a scene. I can imagine a Triceratops or Edmontosaurus carcass in the middle of the two. The poses definitely make it seem like some kind of dispute is going on, whether you intended them to or not.

I'm sure that's do-able..or you could get the dead ceratopsian from CollectA to go with them..the scale looks good :

That's very true, I didn't even think of that. Then, of course, I'd have to buy Malcolm's Quetzalcoatlus, trying to get at the carcass as well...
Malcolm, will this model have the same paint job as the other?

I dunno - the difference in detail between this new rex and the old one would make such a diorama a little jarring, I think. The old one does look pretty awesome with that trike, though.

First off, thanks for all the kind words regarding this second version of the rex- I think that Pixelboy makes a good point about the two different rexes not really 'going together', and brings up something interesting about this line, that some may have noticed- if you read the original thread that launched this line of 1/40 figures, started back on my birthday in 2008, you can see that the original intention with this line was to make 'toy like' pieces that would offer up figures in different poses, species not usually made by toy manufacturers, etc.(I had planned and actually sculpted a dead carcass of a hadrosaur to go with the line back then, although I never did issue it)- so I worked in a style that I sort of based on some of the toy sculpts- sort of loose, enough detail to get the idea across, focussing more on the pose than little details-if that makes sense- I didnt want to spend hours and hours on the sculpt, trying to focus on making economical pieces as the priority- I have been kicking up the detail a bit in the last few pieces I have finished, have to say seeing the pieces that are offered through shapeways and those that have been coming out of Mexico City, have made me want to kick up the detail level a bit- little details are still not the main priority for me over pose and dynamics, and still trying to keep it within the average collector's budget, plus not wanting the older pieces to look too far removed from the newer pieces-and trying to keep a flow of issuing of new stuff coming-all the while still trying to keep up with orders for figures- its all very much like one of those plate spinners that used to be on the local Bozo's circus here in Chicago- hope this makes sense to all of you- (this detail level issue is one of the reasons I havent gone any further as of yet with the allosaurus pack that the allo on the carcass was supposed to be the first of- havent decided yet how to make any further pack members in the higher level detail style without making the original allo on carcass obsolete-as of now I would probably go with making a whole new all on carcass piece in the newer style and then continue on with the pack as it is an idea I want to still do) Any thoughts?

I don't think I'd have a real problem setting them together on a shelf myself and I like comparing the progression in detail. You could display one as older and one as slightly younger even I suppose.
The Allo pack perhaps you could start with other pieces before re-doing the feeding carcass one..or at least change the pose to make it more different as you did with the Rex here ?

I really like the newer pieces - glad you've decided to increase the detail level. I think, where the line is now is what a lot of collectors would want. Detailed, accurate, finished statues in unique poses, and at reasonable prices. For a collector like me, who hasn't the time or money to invest in unfinished resin kits, it's just great. That said, it may be cool to continue doing the Allos in the simpler style - since they are meant as a set, keeping the prices lower might be good for people who want to buy and display them all together. Then, perhaps, you could do a standalone Allo in the newer style.
By the by, any news on the colors for this rex?
