You really need to buy some cheap shelves...then again I can relate to you. My mom went out and bought me a huge shed that took a week for me and my dad t o put together just for my dinosaur toys and pets..... before that...Couldn't fit a shelf anywhere.

But now, the only shelves in my room aren't shelves, they are big metal "racks", and my lizard cages are on them. It is weird, my stepdad doesn't want me getting any more dinosaurs because they make a "mess" in my room, but if he made me shelves (Which he doesn't really want to do) they would look nice to guests and they would not make a mess.

Space is always an issue with any kind of collector...my reptile hobby spread outdoors years ago...lol ( the species that can take the climate changes in East TN of course )... but to my point.. if your herp racks are tall enough and have unused space beneath them..why not use that ? I remember mine used to be on those iron aquarium stands..raises them to eye level but wastes a lot space...I finally took some scrap wood ( 2x4 and plywood ) and built mini shelves under them. If you want to be really cheap..just borrow a glue gun and get some cardboard boxes.one glued together the way you want paint em'black or walnut and they will actually look nice. Other than that...maybe convince your stepdad that reptiles and dinosaurs are related so having models of them furthers your understanding of the past or herpatology..whichever you prefer..take an educational tack when discussing it..as Calvin so often told his mother.. " but mom...it's [educational/i]..." an argument that generally works on most parents..

The herp racks are at eyesight and floor level, and heat lamps and supplements are stored between. And my stepdad doesn't care about if I learn about any kind of animal, all he cares about is me being able to go to college ......I guess I will still try to convince him though...

I was wondering if you kept your supplies there as well...I did to..just put hte figures in front of em'. Also..if your tanks are at eye level and don't go any higher..you could design shelves that take up the entire floor to ceiling area. Depending on the subject..learning about animals can get you into college...basic biology and life sciences are good reasons to study all you can about earth's current and past life forms. All of these are of course suggestions..I don't really know what your situation or relationships are so just conside it my two cents..lol
