For me its either fire or theft. And also the fact that I have no AC, so I worry about some of my less heat-resistant figures melting in the summer! I have been thinking of purchasing insurance for my collection, because I have so much invested in it now. www.americancollectors.com/Collectible/17/Your thoughts? I never even heard of such insurance. if they are legit, I say it would be worth looking into, and maybe even go through with the purchase.

Kev: Andre Mursch (Brontodocus) has basically done that. He's categorised photos online of every animal in his collection, but by clade, rather than by time period (so he'll have folders dedicated to Sauropodomorpha, Tyrannosauroidea, etc. - the level of clade depends on how many relevant figures he has). Me? No. Ehm... well, admittedly, yes... ;D I've just had a look... 46 albums and close to 4400 photos. Oh, dear... So my biggest fear is: Will I ever see all of my figures again (and in the same condition I bought them)? Currently I have approx. 1700 figures so there's no way to display them all. Puttling them in storage boxes may cause figures to deform so it's better to store them upright (and always keep these clear standing supports that come with Safari Ltd. and other figures!) and not throw them all over another. Another fear was if my kids would probably crush my cardboard models but so far this didn't happen, phew. On the other hand, when it comes to overcrowded shelves (and in the worst case one with resin models) there's always the fear of something falling over or even the shelf coming down due to overweight.

Natural disaster aside my biggest fear would have to be my cats. So far they haven't done anything except play with a couple smaller figures from the bottom shelf but it would not surprise me if one of them decided to chew on one. I shouldn't have said anything. Not long after the above post I went into the room that houses my collection and noticed a chewed up head on my Invicta Plesiosaur. I don't know if it was from the kitten I was house sitting a couple weeks ago or one of my own cats but I'm at a loss at what to do. Why did it have to be an Invicta?

It was really my own fault. I should know by now that if something bad can happen it will happen and I should take measures to prevent it. I just don't have the space to do much about it.

There shouldn't be fear. It is the ACTION of collecting that brings us joy. As long as there are figures out there to collect our joy will never end. HAVING a collection is nothing like COLLECTING. I don't fear if anything would happen. If a fire breaks and I can't save them, at least I have the wonderful memories left - and the passion in my soul to keep collecting! I disagree. Each figure I obtain is one more I don't have to look for, one more conquest. I stand in front of my collection with pride thinking about what it took to get them (eBay battle frequently). I DO NOT want to do that again. I don't want to start from scratch nor spend all that money again. When I buy a figure I want it to be the last time I buy it. If I lost my collection I'm not certain I would collect again for quite some time, every time I re-bought a figure I would feel the pain of knowing I once had it and now have to spend my money on it again.

Isn't the greatest danger in articulating your fears, even putting them down for, essentially, eternity--and then daring the uncaring universe to make it happen? We've already had one cat-related instance!

I might as well just destroy them myself so that the universe can't...unless I'm the means through which the universe will. Now my head hurts.

Not a loss like some of you, but my juvenile delinquent Schnauzer just recently chewed the head off of a Bullyland Schnauzer figure. He's d**n lucky that I hadn't finished it as a voodoo doll. ;D

My biggest fear is that my dinos might come to life in the middle of the night and attack me in my bed! The horror, not to mention the shame of being despatched by an Inpro!

I am living my biggest fear right now... Last year somewhere around September, a had made a lot of money witch i decided to spend on my Dinosaur collection. I am waiting since that day for my beloved ones (yes i can get sentimental about plastic stuff) to arrive. But nothing since... To make things worse, both the sellers are ignoring my emails.

I spent over over 70 dollars for a custom painted Carnegie T-Rex on eBay....I waited months for it and it never arrived. I emailed the seller and he promised to send me another one, but he never did.
I couldn't even contact eBay to file a claim because it had been too long. So I never got my money back OR my figure.
I was really disappointed- his work was so professional looking as well.

You HAVE to open a claim within 40 days of the auction no matter what the seller says. Lesson learned the hard way on this end too. I now do it automatically. Nothing personal I tell the seller if I have been in contact with him as you were above.

As of right now, my biggest fear is that I'll have to wait months and months to be able to continue buying models. Have pity for the poor, broke exchange student.
