Hello everybody. As you may know, I'm newbie in collecting. Thanks to your help, for example your participation in Most Life-Like List, I'm about to buy my first lot of figures. Also i want to get models of myself... just kidding ;D . I want to get everything related to Megalosaurus, the first described dinosaur. So please, post your suggestions on toys/models/sculpts/art/books/whatever. And remember that an image or link is always welcome. Thank you very much.

Sadly, I don't think this dinosaur has any sculpts that do it justice....at least in toy form. Sorry to rain on your parade. I've got a couple of books though This book is The Ultimate Dino-Pedia. It IS a kids book, but it's worth getting for the illustrations IMO. I love Franco Tempesta's art. I really like this illo (and the book in general) despite the zombie hands. Just for lolz, here is a very ugly and bloodthirsty Megalo

The CollectA Megalosaurus is probably the easiest to obtain of the three that Mauro suggested, since it's still in production (unlike the Invicta) and isn't a museum exclusive (which the Toyway is).

If the Invicta was redone in a more modern pose it would easily win out..I actually still prefer it anyway..and it's the only Meg in my collection.

The Invicta Megalosaurus is VERY retro and rather strange. If you want a good illustration, check out Todd Marshall's - it's one of my favourites by him. There aren't really any good figures of this animal available at the moment, which seems a real shame. ...One other thing...I had a go at drawing it once...it's less than brilliant, but as we're talking about the animal, why not ;D

Not to mention that Megalosaurus is a waste basket taxon, since it was the earliest, a lot of bones were ascribed to it. Only a lower jaw and some skeletal bits are currently identified as Megalosaurus. Hard to make a figure with that. Of course a lot of discussion has shown up at the DML in the past about this and there have been big arguments catfights. However, this is the most accurate! ;D Behold! The mighty Megalosaurus! I know, I know, wrong number of digits and the front arms are pronated.

Just found these Chinasaur Megalos on Urzeitshop Both pretty horrible sculpts. They seem to be based on this piece of paleoart

I actually wouldn't mind having one of those Chinasaur megs, any toy inspired by an old piece of artwork has a place in my collection. At the moment the only meg I own is the Invicta.

I hear ya...I love retro dinosaur reconstructions too. I just wish the sculpts and paint jobs were better. I hate those big ugly seams running through the middle.

I quite like that 2nd Chinasaur...but I think I'd have to repaint it in greyscale, to match Neave Parker's painting! ;D

I think the Invicta one is the only one worthwhile getting. The chinasaur ones are just too tacky for my taste.
