I found this somewhere and had to comment. it's been a long time since I've been on this board, and I've had to add a "1" to my username. but is my opinion about the Will ferral LOTL spoof, which I will NOT be seeing. Oh, here is the quote first:
Did I love Land of the Lost as a child? Yes. Was it the cheesiest and campiest thing ever? Pretty much. Would I want to see that version of LOTL on the big screen? NO. You can’t do this movie any other way than a raunchy comedy WILL FERRELL
Now wait on a second--The special effects were cheesy and campy, NOT the story lines (discounting season three, of course). The stories are what made LOTL the most innovation science fiction series in the hisotry of children's programing. All they would ahve to do to make it appeal today would be to scrap the cheesy effects for cutting edge. And keep the mind-bending plots.
Think, will a spoof have any of the plots about time doorways, paradoxes, etc.? Will the hsiotry of Altrusia finally get fully explored as it shoudl, if this is a comedy? The answer is obvious--NO. The ironic thing is the special effects will be updated, so that it no longer looks painfully cheesy. But since it is a comedy, what really made the series outstanding will be totally scrapped. This movie will be a total waste.
They did it with Space Ghost. Looks like LOTL is next.
I'll have to agree on that one...
I've never been a fan of movies that are "self referential" and "wink to the audience, knowing how ridiculous it all is" as those stuffy movie critic say
If "The Dark Knight" can take the idea of a guy who dresses up in a bat costume protecting a city called "Gotham" from a guy who dresses up as a clown seriously, then anything can be made well! ;D
