You can't fool me...my mother isn't that ugly!!! ;D Yes it is, they need to slow down on the finds before they completely lose all knowledge of Paleontology.

Nope. Utahraptor was about the size of the animals in Jurassic park. Nay...Jurassic Park Raptors are CLEARLY based on Deinonychus, not Utahraptor

It's the skull and some other details, not just the size, right? The JP raptors were too bulky even to be velociraptors weren't they?

Yeah, they are scaled up Deinonychus--someone decided that the look of Deininonychus was more interesting, but the word 'raptor' was more threatening (and marketable--I'm looking at you, Toronto Raptors). The Utahraptor thing is completely after the fact--it was described after the movie was finished. And the heads and proportions are not the same anyway.

Granted, they looked very little like a Velociraptors in the film, and to me they look the most like jumbo Deininonychus too. "It's the skull and some other details, not just the size, right?" Yes. And size/bulk. Deininonychus Velociraptor

Good ol' Deino is much more cooler than Velociraptor...It could be it's size, the fact it's skull is bulkier and the history behind his discovery...Who knows,i prefer him over the mongolian Raptor ;D

The raptors in JP look bigger then Deinonychus to me. They look a little bit smaller then Utahraptors, with shorter tails..

They are bigger than Deinonychus--they just chose to use that shape and proportion for the 'raptors' instead of real Velociraptors. The fact that Utahraptor was later discovered to be similar in size was just a coincidence.

The raptors in jp were what, 13-14 feet long? And aren't dienonychus only like 11-12 feet (while some individuals are bigger/smaller)??

No...the Raptors in Jp were around 10 feet long, but were much taller and bulkier then Deinonychus.
Deinonychus grew an average of 10 feet as well, but was shorter and lighter...

No...the Raptors in Jp were around 10 feet long, but were much taller and bulkier then Deinonychus. The raptors in jp and jp3 are the same size. I have a jp3 size chart that says the raptors are 13 feet long. So the jp raptors are 13 feet long too, with some individuals being bigger/smaller than others.

I know that, but the size chart was off from the other movies. My JP books say the raptors in the movie were 10 feet long, versus 6 feet. The chart also says the T-Rex was 37 feet long, which in my opinion is way off. In the movies, it was obviously larger then that.

In the book, there were apatosaurs, ........ I wouldn't use the book facts as facts about the movies. The jp3 size chart says the rex was 39 feet long, but I was talking about the raptors. Compare the raptors from the first jp to the third jp, and they are the same size. You can see these raptors are easily 13 feet long. Looks a like it is about 12 feet, don't ya think?

Utahraptor. Being that (at least to my knowledge) utahraptor is fragmentary (some skull chunks, several tail verts, some claws and a limb bone) we really don't have a firm bead on size. (Please someone chime in and correct me if I am wrong ?) dml.cmnh.org/1995May/msg00084.htmlWhile looking for skull/reconstruction images, I did bump into this thread though, and there are some very interesting bits of stuff here...like how the original reconstruction of the Deininonychus skull was likely incorrect.... I say we all accept that the JP "raptors" were movie monster beasties, and can only land a label of "Generic Dromaeosaurid" at best.
