Well I'm currently organising this with Cordy. We are thinking about real prize(s) this time. I could possibly send a prize (dinosaur) out of the goodness of my heart ;D or have a small fee and use those funds as a prize - but that would put many people off and not everyone has paypal. I had the idea of having a voluntary entry fee, i.e non-mandatory. I could set up a paypal 'donate' button for the DTF diorama contest with a suggested fee, just a dollar or so. People could send a fee if they wish or not if they don't want to/can't. Then those funds would go to the winner. Wondered what you all think? Do you see any problems with the idea? Do you think it would fly? Or, maybe everyone can enter but only entrants who paid the fee are eligible for the prize? Or does anybody have any other ideas?

A fee? That could work, but remember that only a handful of people is interested in making dios, you're not going to raise much.

Hmm...a fee as a reward?
I suppose that would work.
Better than a fee Cordy? ;D What? A material possession I'd presume?

Although I will try, I probably won't even come close when compared to say, Tomhet's.

I only have one question, the same as last time--will it be a photo-shopper, or a physical diorama? If there is a prize, are we rewarding photo-shop skills or diorama skills? If so, should there be two categories?

Photoshopping really isn't fair to those of us (Not me) who either can't obtain such an expensive software, or don't know how to use it.
In my opinion this should be strictly diorama, but it isn't my contest.

It's going to be simple and completely open, no theme, no limits regarding the use of photoshop. Artistic, technical, creative and scientific merits will be judged by the voters.

You don't need photoshop to make a good diorama, it's just that some people like to use it.

But it also means that people can use figures they don't even own--or they can multiply the numbers of individuals of a figure they don't have. I see dioramas in the way Randy Knol does them--all physical, existing entities that could theoretically be picked up or walked around. But I guess we'll see.

Doesn't randy use photoshop on many of his dios? To get things bigger, smaller, etc.

I too agree with this only because the use of photo shop is sort of like cheating IMO - One doesn't have to own the figures in the composition, and considering that the photos that the dinosaurs get imposed upon are someone else images, unless you have permission to use those images its sort of shifty. That is unless everyone who is going to use photo shop has to photograph their own backdrops to impose their dinosaurs on, and not take someone elses images...
I think the 2 types of dioramas (photo-shop vrs non photo-shop) should definitely have separate contests. I for one would probably enter both, but they are so very different from one another.
