Dinonikes, maybe as another side-project or something, I think if you made this, you could make $1000's selling these to members of the JP community if they were done well.. That one, the LW Trike, and CE Ankylosaur.... ;D I did ask once about JP figures but didn't get a response...perhaps he thought I was joking...lol There are members on JPT that do really nice sculpts..but they don't seem to know how to cast anything... I sent that one member a link to Dinonikes casting tutorial though. I am seriously considering making a replica of this thing- it is so weird and strange it would be sort of challenging to make a recreation of it- i know i could sculpt it -that wouldn't be the challenge- the challenge would be the molding of the parts and the casting and assembly of it to make it work- have all the posable legs and arms and such, the removable back piece- a guy at work is interested in helping me cause he thinks it is so weird as well- lol - might make a good lunchtime project- we shall see-

That weirdness factor is why so many are attracted to it I think...heh Really I would happy just having it even if it is more of a model than a figure...so working joints and such don't bother me...lol can't speak for everyone else though..

That's what the " lol " was for...just kidding with you myself... Any interest you want to put toward a JP project will be appreciated for sure. ;D I'm open to giving him a chance.. but my disposeable income is limited so I can't the first to take a chance on him...that's all...and I've posted on his forum as well asking about finished or even casted pieces..just not received much of a reply is all. I've had plenty of customer experiance on eBay and locally....I can get mad and raise my blod pressure or laugh...so I " LOL " a lot....heh heh Yeah, I don't know anything about that guy, but it seems like he starts a lot of things and doesn't follow all the way through with them- I am only going by the fact that he doesn't have any finished photos anywhere-just rough or nearly finished pieces- too bad he has a lot of talent-like his sculpts a lot-You mean Roostercat ? Yeah it's almost freaky how he works...I've seen pieces he's done that looks like csats of Stan's origs.. heh... I was told he was able to lay hands on an 8 foot JP Rex from about the waist up that plans on casting and re-working, selling it as a kit...I told him I might be interested..a kit..maybe I could afford it... ;D lol Yeah that's him, Roostercat- very cool stuff- that T-Rex of his is pretty impressive- can't tell how big it is from the photos I saw- looks to be like at least six to eight feet in length- hard to tell-very cool scales and a nice quality to it- not a slavish copy of the JP Rex- love the strange leather wrapped cat creature he has on his site too- that guy is very talented-Very...if he only made them all as kits or something..whatever it took to bring down the costs..I've gotten handy at painting JP style dinos...heh he also does commissions but the one guy I know who bought a JP Pachy maquette made by him said it was around 700 USD for 16x22 " I believe...way too rich for my blood..

I wouldn't mind having it and a big fibreglass version of the Rex from Kong either....something around 3 feet or would be fine I think... ;D

Wow! That guy's sh*t is awesome! I wonder if he has any finished products listed anywhere else and what he might be asking for them?

He has a website but nothing I could see for sale..I tried emailing him and haven't heard back yet. I do know a member over at JPL had him do a custom JP Pachy maquette and it was 700.00 unpainted.

Hi Malcolm, the article is interresting but I think the comments are more interessant. Indeed, even if the teeth were nearly tapir like, it doesn't mean that deinotherium didn't need a real trunk. The problem is how a 5m tall animal can drink ? Giraffe and indricotherium are long necked enough but the trunk is the proboscidian solution. I try to imagine a deinotherium down on his knees to drink with its curved tusks sticking in the mud... Poor guy. IMHO (at last I know what it means), a deinotherium needs a serious and beautiful trunk.

There are a few different ways of thinking about the trunks--the Bully one has a short trunk (longer than a tapir, shorter than an elephant--sort of Macrauchenia-like); the Starlux one has a pretty much full trunk. Personally, I like the Bully take, but functionally a longer trunk probably makes more sense. Examples: Starlux: Bully:

The deinotherium's neck seems a little bit longer than the elephant's one, the trunk doesn't need to touch the ground when the head is straight.

So this morning I received a few emails from collectors who were contacting me after seeing my ad in the new issue of Prehistoric Times which is out I guess- we shall see if there are any new members coming here as result of this ad, as I posted the url to this forum in my ad- hope we see a lot of new faces here- I found some photos on my camera that were progress shots of some of the pieces here so look for those-

I still haven't gotten my copy of the latest Prehistoric Times yet- I was told I would get a copy for placing the ad- I haven't seen the ad yet- Mike set it up for me- all i did was send him the text and the photos so I am curious how it was put together, how it ended up looking- responses to the ad seem to have stopped after an initial small batch of emails- got my money back on the ad so at least it was worth it in that sense ,and as a way to promote the line and this project, and the forum as well- probably will have to put in a nice color one next issue to get more attention less text and just as many photos as I can fit in the ad space- there would also be a lot more figures to show by then as well-

Interesting ,how did PT allow you to write an ad for them?
Too bad I don't subscribe to that magazine.

Also, I've been looking at your line, and sculpting still interests me. I've tried it a few times not too long ago and with the proper tools it is actually fairly easy to make an accurate detailed figure. Its a shame clay is too expensive.
