After picking up a massive box of sculpey, I've decided to create a Tyrannosaurus. Any possibly poses or posture suggestions? Also, is 12 inches a popular size?

I think a tyrannosaurus lying down would be nice for once, plus it would be easier to get the balance right than if it were standing up ...12" would probably work well. that's my own two cents though XD

What a coincidence, buddy! Just 4 days ago i've started to build my own Eotyrannus, using that "green stuff" by Games Workshop...For now it's just the "basic shape, but, day after day,i'm sure it will come out as a good dino figure

Thanks sepp. A very good idea. I see. Eotyrannus? I am surprised you are not taking on Tyrannosaurus? The Green stuff eh? I've tried it, and it is hard as a rock. I chose sculpey because air-dry clays really do get on my nerves. Anyway, is it easier than it looks to sculpt? It looks rather easy when Dinonikes does it, and I am sure I can complete one.

I've chosen Eotyrannus 'cause...You see, nobody has made a figure of this english Tyrannosaurid yet, then i wanted to do something different Anyway...As i said,my figure is still in the "basic" mode:i've yet to make all the details, the eyes, the hands and feet...Basically everything except for the body shape which turned out pretty good (i think) ;D It's relatively easy to sculpt, but it has one problem:it's sticky as all hell,so it has to be dried quickly,or else it will be a pain in the ass to remove the traces from your fingers

Expensive material, but it is one of the top brands and the most popular. You can buy a pretty large box of it for 44 dollars. The box is heavy, ranging around 5-10 lbs if not more.

There are two types of Sculpey- regular Sculpey which is a white material, and Super Sculpey, which is a sort of fleshy pink color. The Super Sculpey is far better to sculpt with than the regular Sculpey- it holds details much better-
I always have people at work tell me that I make sculpting things look easy-

I made a giganotosaurus recently out of reg. sculpey, and I am loving it more than super sculpey, which bends way too much. I have a stargazing velociraptor now, with it's head turned up toward the sun....

You made a Giganotsaurus and baked it? How did you bake it if was over half an inch thick? It didn't crack or anything? With...Original Sculpey? And you've also tried Super Sculpey? Which do you recommend judging by my future piece's massive size?

Well... Your future piece wouldn't be "massive" would it? And you could make a "base" for it out of aluminum foil.... Just add clay around the outside till you have what you want? I'll make a thread about my giga now...

Too true. After making my cardboard frame and wire armature, I'll add aluminum foil to bulk it up. But can you imagine how much foil a 13 inch Rex will need to bulk it out?

I know you are still a young man and maybe you don't realize it, but you PM me asking me to help you out in your sculpting, then you basically insult me here on the forum twice, first claiming that what I do is 'fairly easy'. then you say that my poses are 'too plain'- I think I will just leave you to your sculpting and let you figure out on your own that what I do isn't as easy as it may look-i have given enough tips here in various places for you to work from- I am not mad at you, just want you to learn a thing or two about respecting someone's livelihood- I don't sculpt as a hobby, I earn my living from it, and have done so since I was 19-

That came out wrong! I was not looking at your poses. My goodness no. I in no way have any interest in copying you and your work. In fact, I try to refrain from doing anything even close. I was talking about images people posted. They were ones I had usually seen before on sites in the past. I'm looking for something that may spark an idea if that makes sense? (Can you imagine if I bluntly said your figures were "too plain"? Trust me, on the forum, and in person I am not that blunt, and although I am young, I do take people's feelings into account when discussing their art. I bet you will find absolutely no negative comments on anyone's work on the forum. It is just not like me to even critique much, much less come out and say something rude like that.) And sculpting is easy for me, but if you think I mean I can just sculpt something of your skill in one go, that is wrong! It will take a good, long while for me to sculpt anything in the ballpark of your skill, but I will say sculpting with my hand has always been easy, but it is just never "good" enough to satisfy me. After looking at it it does appear that I said your figures were boring, but how can a tyrannosaurus like yours be boring? Its the best pose you can put a theropod in in my opinion. Sorry for the confusion, and hopefully that clears things up. The last thing I want you to think is that your sculpts are dull, and that I am "better" than you. Because I can assure you neither are true. In fact, I like your Tyrannosaurus nearly as much as my v 3. Battat Tyrannosaurus, and because I have had that since 96, that is saying something. (And I do appreciate the help through PM's you've given me now and in the past. )
