So after much gnashing of the teeth and hemming & hawing over design I came up with a design that allows me to mount on a wall. My wife prompted me to The design was inspired by a visit to a large chain Crafts store where I saw a similiar display for golfballs. Seriously, golf balls... The scary thing is that I've been to this craft chain in the US & Canada and they all have this case that inspired me... Now who in the world would collect golf balls? ;D I still need to put either a piece of glass or plexi in the frame (I hate dusting). So my ROM collections, a subset of my Marx, and a few assorted others (including a few of the Yowie Lost Friends) have a new home on the wall. Angle shot to show location relative to main pterosaur display case (also shows the depth). Closer in shot of whole unit Close-up of the Yowies, ROM plus assorted others Close-up of the Marx subset (my childhood collection)

Nice job Dean, How many stitches did you require following the accident with the jig saw? ;D I've been thinking along these lines for after my study is decorated ..................... I was considering mounting a large glazed picture frame to the front so that it would be a deep shelved display case ................ if you get my drift.

"A man's gotta know his limits" So I instead gave some measurements and a concept to someone capable (my father). Net result is that I still have all my fingers, and am only minus one toe... ;D

Those are the coolest golf balls I've ever seen.

I actually used the golf ball display case in my small tyrannosaurs thread (in collections). I got it at Michael's for ~20 bucks using a 40-50% off coupon which you can get off their website. You can hang it upside down so the divots for the golfballs don't show. I had the glass front open for the pix I took, it's perfect for the small scale pieces.

Micheals was the craft chain I spoke of. I had debated about buying one from there but in the end I wanted something with a greater pitch - so I could put larger figures in (knowing ahead of time what I wanted to put in there). I still may buy one or two of the Micheals ones for my smaller figures.

Nice job of showing your new display case and inferring that you made it yourself but in actual fact .......................... your Dad made it ;D Congratulate your old Dad for me ;D

I never said I built it but I wil give you the "inferred" however I did design it. So I should get minimal credit... And even more for knowing to get someone competent to build it. More improtantly, I will pass on the good words to my Father. Originally, I thought about recessing them into the wall hence the larger front but then decided against it. My Father is the family craftsman. Me, I build things out of 2*4 & greater lumber. (And it shows... )

That's a beautiful case, your dad did a great job, and it's a nice design. Getting the height/depth proportion to look good is a tough call. I have one shallow case I built myself and one deepr one that I bought at a garage sale.

Nice display, I really wish I had the room to display my collection I see your pterosaur collection is being swallowed by the ever growing diversity of your collection! ;D

Too true... This forum has been a blessing and a curse. Space for displaying the collection is my main problem also (we have a smaller house). Which is why I will be paring back on collecting other taxa and re-focusing on pterosaurs. Having said that, there is still one museum collection I want to complete - and it is not Battat. It is in style of the ROM & Marx - good ol'plain plastic with no paint on it. I still have about 70 or so pterosaurs to display. Wall space is/was my only option.

I wish I'd paid more attention in woodwork at school now ;D I think it looks great so well done all round Dean

I think you should put lights in your display cases. Then you can turn out the lights and just turn on the cases. Then just add the appropriate sounds or music. ;D

Sorry, you are all wrong. The Pterosaurs prefer it quiet ;D Actually it would probably be more towards the Iron Butterfly style of music with a heavy doses of 80's alternative, punk & goth. Finished off by some Blue Oyster Cult.
