In other threads we're talking about colour variations with Kaiyodo's, Invicta's, Kleinwelka's, Carnegie's etc., but there are also colour variations regarding Starlux. Of course this comes to no suprise, because a lot of the figures were produced during a few decades. I recently won a few Starlux figures with some doubles, but two of those turned out to be very distinct variations of the ones I already own The Dimetrodon in the front I already owned - the other one has different colours, but also a much more refined paint job. I think the new one is also from the most recent manufacture date. Same story: the front one already was part of my collection and I think it's older than the one in the back. I guess the older ones have more coarse paint jobs, but also more 'unnatural' colours. Does anyone else have colour variations of Starlux figures? I'm really curious!

I didn't realize till now that there were different colors. They did redo the Mammoth. One has tusk up, the other down, and there completely different sculpts. Even different colors.

I thought I already replied on your post two days ago, but I guess I did something wrong, because it's gone I also wasn't completely sure if there were distinct colour variations with Starlux figures, but sometimes I saw pictures on Ebay that suggested so (problem with an image on ebay is that you never know for sure the colour is really different). Also the fact most of the figures were produced during a long timespan, makes it reasonable there will be differences in paint style and colours. But still, it came of some surprise to me to really have two of those variations in my collection You are right there are also different sculpts of some of the figures. Some (or all?) of those are in the Starlux leaflet - scans are in the Starlux? What's Starlux? thread. There are also different sculpts of the cavemen.

A new Starlux surprise, or at least to me, is the fact there are Starlux mini's of some of the prehistoric figures I got myself a mini Deinotherium, here it is with the normal one: It's an exact copy, but with a very simple paintjob - just a bit of grey over the brownish base colour, no pink, white and black as is used for the details on the 'adult'. I really was surprised by finding it! After some googling and searching through sold lots on Ebay I found out that a lot of other Starlux figures have mini variants, and I know that there is also a mini version of the Brontotherium. If anybody knows of other mini Starlux prehistorics, I am very interested to hear it!

I don't think many people knew there were mini versions. Congrats!

Yeah, I was also pretty amazed Starlux has a lot of surprises - different sculpts, distinct colour variations and now also some mini versions... I guess I don't have to worry my Starlux collection will get complete too soon Of course I am joking, because there are still some harder to find (and likely expensive!) figures I don't have yet - like the trilobite. Must say it's a shame they only made a replica of a fossil and not an actual trilobite figure - that would have been so cool (not complaining though!

The only surprise is the fact that Starlux doesn't exist anymore... A shame, really. At least, I succeeded in getting two in my childhood (dimetrodon and spinosaurus).

Last but not least, here are the mammals and other post-cretaceous animals This is in my opinion where Starlux excelled. some of these are really exceptionnal. I love the megaloceros. The horns are beautiful. The moropus has a really beautiful fur. The terror birds diatryma and phororhacos are classic "Burian" figures but are among my favorites. The uintaterium is quite large and has a vibrand color. My father's favorites are the elephants. The platybelodon is quite funny and the deinotherium is epic ! The mammoth's and mastodont's tusks are made of a different plastic material. They are quite fragile but we managed to preserve them for over 20 years The baluchitherium is represented in its classic bulky way. The cavemen are nice but they were not really appealing to me. The synthetoceras is lovely unfortunately, its snout horn broke and search for the remaining piece is still ongoing (probably hopeless ) These Starlux figures are vintage. I like their dated look and feel. As stated in this forum, Starlux went out of business in the late 90s. a french singer, Francis Lalanne was moved by the story of the company and bought the shares, but the company has note gone back to business since. These figures are nowhere to be found in shops here where Schleich and Papo rule supreme. I think that the selection of species was a quite educated one that large manufacturers such as schleich could look up to. Next to the classic selection (T-Rex, steg, mammoth, etc...) Starlux had a fine selection of rare species that few or no manufacturers have produced since. The scales are of course totally messed up, with uintatherium being larger than some of the sauropods but i love this collection. I'm new to this forum so I don't know if this is the right way to make a first impression, but I hope you guys enjoy this.

Great collections! I have only three Starlux figures - the Rhamphorynchus, Pterodactylus and the Pteranodon.
Seeing your collections makes me want to get more as I love their retro look!

Thanks ;D You're right there are a few pieces missing. Actually all of these were bought in the same shop in a relatively short time frame. Some figures were not on the shelves and back then there was no Internet to order from for instance they did not have the flying reptiles or the mammals you mentioned. They also sold the diplocaulus solo and not in pairs, I was surprised when I discovered that it was meant to be sold in pairs. I'd love to complete it with the few missing figures though I have to admit that I don't really care about the cavemen. As for the price I was stunned when I realized how much some of these figures sell on eBay.

The 3 you own are missing from my collection. I could enjoy a belated Xmas gift Love the retro look too. Reminds me of the z. Burian pictures that fascinated me as a child. And even today, except maybe for kaiyodo, no manufacturer comes close as far as the variety of species is concerned.

They all have a vintage retro look but they are way cooler than the dinos. I'll have to go to some 2nd hand shops and try to find the missing pieces. What are the ones you're looking for? Oh and yeah the booze... Lol these bottles have been around for as long as the Statius figures it's my parents' place.

Wow, juju 1305 - you have a pretty impressive Starlux collection, great!! And in my opinion also a fantastic way to introduce yourself I also got most of my Starlux figures during the late 80's and early 90's in France. However, I live in the Netherlands, so my parents gave them as presents during vacations - I think most of them were from a dinosaur park near the Ardèche. Your posts and pictures give me another push to keep on 'working' on the missing pieces in my collection And I think you wont have a very hard time to find the missing pieces in yours, because I think you already own all the really hard to find and extremely expensive ones!
