FYI: The President of Safara Ltd informs me that there will be no more official releases of images or names of the species depicted in the 2010 replicas, until November 1st, because they are fearful of other companies stealing their ideas to make inferior copies. Of course, the "leaks" will continue. Loren Speaking of which--I have now seen the preview. Wow, Safari has gone nuts this year (in a good way). Suffice to say, there is something for almost everyone (and there is one not-surprise as we all suspected--but for the sake of tact, I have deleted the pic--which means it is gone from JPToys as well).

ROFL. Not that it'll prevent them from being copied, anyway. No, but lead time on a figure is about 18 months--so if they can get a certain figure into every home (say, of a Coelacanth) many people won't buy a second one just to be completists (unless they are big fans--like myself, who has every hyena I can get, except the Papo one so far). That is the only thing I can think of--because yeah, it isn't like the existence of these animals is not already public knowledge. And of course, given culture references, doubling is expected anyway. Look at last year's marine reptile bonanza--I doubt CollectA or Safari had any knowledge of each other, but they were both aware of a certain IMAX movie--and of a K&M line that was supposed to anchor it for them. As it turns out, that group overall is a huge seller, regardless of brand (several of our patrons bought both Tylosaurus, for example).

We all like Safari - let's try to make it easy on them so Schleich, Procon, and the others can't catch up.
Their Coelacanth figure idea was brilliant, gotta say.

Suffice to say, there is something for almost everyone Well, for "darling of cryptozoology" reasons, I am overjoyed with the coelacanth, especially in conjunction with the Indonesian one I've mentioned over in classified, which makes two good matching sizes of the two separate "living fossil" species! However, I am preparing myself to be disappointed again with a void of new, creative, extinct mammals that might excite me from any company next year. That is my true passion, and I am not holding out much hope for 2010. Loren

Prehistoric mammals are a pretty big deal. Surely some company will release at least one new mammal next year? I'm betting Procon, since they tend to manufacture such great varieties.

Heh-heh, so much for hush-hush, I fully expected the news would leak, and I suspect Safari did too, whatever they said. It's all over the Internet now--the WS 2010 Wild Safari are Brontosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Liopleurodon (WwD lookalike), and Mosasaurus. The Prehistoric Sea Life t00b is indeed of prehistoric sea life, including Henodus, Metriorhychus, a Frilled Shark, Dolichorhynchops, Nothosaurus, and Basilosaurus in addition to the usual suspects. L&P has the pics

Yup, ran across them earlier today on L&P. I doubt it'll have a huge impact - with the exception of the toobs (which no other company really makes) the other previously-unspoilered critters all have counterparts in other lines.
Woo Nothosaurus! Double woo for it being Kaiyodosaur-sized!

*Sigh* Seeing those, well... It is kind of a let down. All of them besides the sea life toob, and the previously known sculpts, seem kind of cheezey

And mercifully the WS liopleurodon isn't remotely Procon-ish Poor CollectA has certainly been knocked out of contention ;D

I don't like sauropods, but personal preferences aside, all of the figures seem quite nice.
The lack of any fish(other than the shark) in the Prehistoric Marine Life toob leaves hope that maybe we'll see an Ancient Fishes toob in the future.

Yeah, beyond paintjob, all of these knock Procon out of the water. Only the Brachi is comparable, and it took Procon two tries to get that one right The Mosasaurus is a nice little counterpart to the Tylosaurus, I think.

Well, first off, sauropod figures are usually BIG, and I don't have room for them. Second, I prefer predators.

That included the awesome brachiosaurus, coelacanth and co. Actually, the more I look at the lio the more I like it. I'll be getting all the marine reptiles and maybe the fossil toob, as I like companies who make marine reps...

So, beyond "collectible" reasons, has the Playvisions marine reptile set been completely knocked out of contention by the new toob?

There is at least one new 2010 item that L&P forgot to leak, and it's one of my personal favorites.
