Could've been collagen or whatever. Let's face it, they look like quills and they're arranged rather neatly - it's safe to say that at least one species of Psittacosaurus had quills. But not Triceratops, at least until they actually publish something on that mummy...

But not Triceratops, at least until they actually publish something on that mummy... It's not yet a foregone conclusion that those structures on the fossil were "quills" on the animal itself. There is still the possibility that they could simply be from a plant. As it was said earlier, that could easily be tested, but the problem is that further study on the fossil has been halted because it was collected illegally from China. Therefore, the jury is still out on this one until the legal issues are resolved.

I've only just gotten around to catching up on this thread as the releases seem so far away ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Some nice choices there for 2010 then ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . Some must have figures there for sure. Tis rather telling that nobody has bashed Safari yet for retreading the Apato, Brachi and Lio. My hypocracy scanner just blew ;D Can someone remind Safari that the colour scheme for Lios is copyrighted to BBC Worldwide and they will need to pay a £20,000 fee before releasing it ................... or at least come up with something original. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) They should ask Kevin for some ideas ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) It's nice to see that they're finally catching up with Invicta though ...... bless em ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) And only a year behind Schleich's Apato, a long way behind Schleich's Brachi and Oh, 10 years or so behind the original WWD Lio. ;D I do love their figures honestly. I just find their marketing strategy rather crass and cynical. They really need to drop that barely masked schoolyard competition thing they have going with European manufacturers as it's really none too appealing. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I'd much rather they dropped the Apato, Brachi and Lio and made some of the tube figures in a decent size ............... unless it's a tester for things to come (in which case everybody else take note and play them at their own daft game ;D) You think? :oIsn't that always the case? When it comes to Safari, its sing the song of praise and jubilation! ;D ;D LOL! ;D Just look at what happened to the Safari 2010 thread, that turned nasty really quick! Anyway, I do love the new Brachi and marine reptiles. I will have to have my Liopleurodon sent to Adam for him t o sign when I get it! ;D The apato, hmmm, still like it but reminds me so much of_____ 2009 cetio ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Hope you feel better soon! Well, as you know Boki I have figures from all of the major manufacturers and, like yourself, I love them for what they are and that willow wisp thing 'accuracy' doesn't come into it at all ............. otherwise I would own nothing but detailed skeletal models ;D. I love the Safari models I have (dozens of them now ;D) but I really don't think they're as good as they think they are especially when you compare the original sculpt with what ends up in your hand .................. and you consider 'character' in the equation ......... certainly they don't excite me to the pant wetting hysteria levels of some of the Safari groupies around here ;D ............. although I do have interesting day dreams about this El Presidente Ramona person ;D I am getting excited about the prospect of a slew of new marine reptiles ................. as much about the possibility that Safari's releases will prompt Schleich to re-explore this area as the prospect of having the new Safari releases in hand. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Did I miss something then? Has Dr Adam sculpted and coloured the new Lio? Otherwise, confused as to why you ask him to sign it I'm recovering from Swine Flu ................. I do tend to be more disagreeable than usual when ill so apologies if I offended anyone by dissing their godhead ;D

BD - I didn't sculpt anything, I merely provided scientific advice and images for the artist who did produce the upcoming Lio. Anatomical advice only, I had no say in the pose or colour.

THey're doing cool new ones, and they're making the old ones fantastic (while schleich, and procon's re-does are still wrong and for the most part cartoony). I do agree though, the schleich marine reptiles were probably the strongest in the replicasaurus line... Let's hope they make more!!

Well, of course, the hand-sculpted clay prototypes are going to be much more detailed and crisp than the factory-produced PVC casts That depends on quality control which has always been Safari's achilles heel ............... pulls the Carnegie TRex out of the hat yet again ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I've never seen a Schleich, Bullyland or Procon yet with major deformations or mortally asymetrical facial features ;D And, don't come out with that old twaddle about old molds ............... that's no excuse for continually flogging a flawed product ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Safari seems to take their new prehistorics seriously, the same can't be said for schleich and procon. Well, I am a little confused. Let's see. Many here said they adore the older schleich figures, claiming that although they were of a retro vein, and somewhat inaccurate, their overall personality and charm overwheled better competition.
The same people despaired of the newer, somewhat more accurate schleics for a lack of same personality.
Then, schleich releases this new apato, which a little less retro, but still kinda retro, and has tons--almost literally it is so massive--of the old personality, and said people now hate it for looking "cartoony"? I don't know what you all expect.

Everybody's talking about the new ones. Get with the program old timer! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D (but seriously-- Safari should SO retire that trex of theirs, along with their terrible kronosaurus and allosaurus! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) ) Am I? Take a look at the proconsaurs from the past three years. How many of them actually look professional and well thought out, and how many look like they were made in art class by fourth graders? And schleich, well-- They are constantly re-doing the same thing, over, and over, and over again. At least safari adds in some new ones, and does the old ones right! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Check out the releases of safari over the past few years compared to everybody elses... Although bully made some cool triassics in '07, right? But still...(I mean, seriously- Doing parasaurolophus in a tripod pose these days should mean death to the company that made it ;D ) And yes-- Many of the skeletal dimensions of the other companies' dinosaur toys are wrong! And for the extremely well known ones like triceratops, Trex, velociraptor etc... There is really no excuse for getting them wrong, as I can usually get a more accurate representation of a dinosaur by looking for a few minutes on google than looking through a procon or schleich catalouge ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) And as for looking cartooney and how we'll never know how they really looked-- They could at least put some effort in to make them look respectable ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) And of course they don't make the rest of the line look like junk-- Overall though, they are some of the neatest of the line (and some of the neatest figures around in general ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) All that being said though, I do like many of the schleich, bully, and proconsaurs
