I'm sure the topic of how Jurassic Park misrepresented Dilophosaurus has come up many times. Being my favorite dino, I felt the need to do one my own way. I recently completed my dilophosaurus figure. Check it out here: Actual sculpt (in castilene): creative-beast.com/?page_id=115&album=6&gallery=4Completed verison: creative-beast.com/?page_id=115&album=6&gallery=21The sculpt, mold, cast, buildup and paint are all done by myself. This figure is available as a kit in the 'shop' section of the site. The actual kits were professionally molded and cast by Mike Evans at Alchemy Works.

But my god, you haven't included the vestigial fourth finger. I'm joking. Of course this is bloody amazing. It puts every other Dilophosaurus out there to shame, as I'm sure absolutely everyone else will agree. Out of interest, why is it your favourite?

Out of interest, why is it your favourite? Well aside from being one of the original badass theropods- the sleekness of the proportions, that wicket notch in the upper jaw, and the unique double crest just make it look so beautiful yet terrifying. There's just so much to like about this one.

Dude. You rock. Very awesome stuff and yes, That is the coolest dilophosaur I have seen thus far. Big welcome!

Being quite primitive it does have the creepy, reptilian aspect that later theropods lack. And you're right, that strange crest is quite beautiful, even if we are only fortunate enough to see it in fossilised form.
My favourite is Tyrannosaurus. It was as a kid and I think it always will be. It's a rather unique animal, even among the tyrannosaurs.

The Saichania sculpt seen in progress on your site looks like it's going to be impressive,I can't wait to see it completed. ;D

If I did big resin kits, i would consider this one - fantastic work! I would buy a "miniature" version in 1:40,1:50, or 1:60 in a heartbeat.
I have a few of the McF Dragons too - they're excellent.

Heh, I collected every one of the Mcfarlane Dragons....even the non-dragon-looking ones like that darn Komodo from...series 2 I think. A little modification though and he was much better.. If you put this much detail and work into your figures you will def have me as a fan....;D for big models though I'm getting a bit addicted to the Sideshow Dinosauria pieces...heh

D'OH, for a moment i hoped it would have cost as much as a McFarlane figure ;D Yeah I wish that were the case. Although it is 16", so it is a good size (plus it's in scale with 6" action figures). Resin kits aren't cheap to produce they aren't cheap to buy. In the future I'd like to have these produced in China- which would not only lower the cost ,but they'd also be pre-painted and assembled. The catch is that I'd have to order a high quantity, which I don't have the $$ for at the moment. This is why the McFarlane dragons only cost about $10 or so - they can afford to order several thousand units at a time. And the Komodo clan dragon mentioned is from series 3. At McFarlane we referred to it as the 'ninja turtle' dragon.

At McFarlane we referred to it as the 'ninja turtle' dragon. The reg figures were about 15.00 retail and the boxsets 25-30.00 or so..that Hydra dragon was the most expensive I believe. Your right, all my Dragons are organized according to Clan and who they look better with..so I def keep the series releases together. We also called that dragon Bowser or the Koopa dragon..lol he really did look like a real Komodo lizard with just armor thrown on..I gave mine wings and it really helped out : blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Mcfarlane-Dragons-Komodo-85968170Since it's unlikely McF will ever finish releasing the dragons or the storyline..can you shed some light on it ? What was the ultimate goal of Tyr and the Dragon Prince ? Can't believe the Prince never got a figure..a huge black dragon would have really sold..but we did at least get get the King though. ..I followed the story pretty well..but it was jumbled and revised so much..I remember the fan complaints about Hydra having only 3 heads when it was said he had 5 and was bigger than a mountain...no way was that going to work in figure form ..heh I also finished the tree base on the Hunter Clan and made some minor adjustments on the Warrior : blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Hunter-Clan-Dragon-Custom-Base-85967107blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Mcfarlane-s-Warrior-Dragon-85968944I even made me some more Scavenger Dragons and Fossil Clan Dragons when I heard the line was canceled : blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Scavenger-Dragons-85969717blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Undead-Dragon-Dracolich-2-114373758blade-of-the-moon.deviantart.com/art/Undead-Dragon-Dracolich-Sculpt-114370382

Wow Blade, you really are a McFarlane Dragons fan! Nice! The prices on the dragons around here for the first several series was actually $9.99 at Toys R Us and Wal-Mart (when they had them) was a little lower than that and the box sets were usually about twice that. It seems like the prices increased around series 5 I think. Everything went up when the price of oil increased a while back. HAHA- we're really getting off topic now... maybe you should start a McFarlane Dragons thread...

I didn't know Blade Hunters had a story line. I just wanted the toys.

Really ? The stories sort of fed my imagination a bit and gave some backstory on each piece. BladeHunters was supposed to pick up with Tyr in the present after they wen back and di the rise and fall of the dragon kingdom story. Since Bladehunters only recived one line it didn't get far...only he was going to meet up with the Prince and that the Prince was only dragon left that could change him back to full human again.
I was just hoping you may have been told , read or seen something like a concept for the Prince...he was a big plot hole that was never filled really..it was said only he was big, black, was sympathetic towards humans and was the only one who could restore Tyr's true form.
Spawn.com has all the stories online I think, if want to try and read through them...the dragon battles were nice..like the all the Fossil Clan ( former leaders of Drago society )trying to stop the Hydra from rising again after rising from their graves.
I even petioned for a comic book for the series..and was told it was being considered..but the line fell through before it happened I guess.
DId you ever hear anything about Mcf doing a dinosaur line ? It was brought up o nthe boards several times..and Todd even said himself once he would like to do one...but that was before he made the move to only make " licensed " properties.

Funny story about that- I asked Todd once if he'd consider doing a dinosaur line and his response was something to the effect of "That would be cool- my kids like dinosaurs. But we'd only get about two or three series out of it - there just aren't enough of them." Yeah.... Still makes me laugh to this day.

Tell that to Carnegie, or Procon. Because well over 600 species isn't enough. Plus all the pterosaurs, marine reptiles, Permian/Triassic monsters and prehistoric mammals. A set of figures could be pumping out every year forever!
