Speaking of invictas, here are my two most recent acquisitions: The very first invicta box sets released in the US. The set on the right was released in 1974, the set on the left was released in 1975.

I still don't entirely understand why they made a blue whale that is not even to scale with the rest of the line.

I was hoping the paper flyer would explain. It has a little paragraph on the back about each creature. For the whale, it just talks about how it is the biggest animal ever and that is endangered.

I still don't entirely understand why they made a blue whale that is not even to scale with the rest of the line. The reason is that the dinosaurs aside, the most popular exhibit in the museum for many years (I think 1930s to the present day) is a life size Blue Whale. The museum wanted a model of this available alongside the dinos. The blue whale is still impressive although not entirely accurate compared to today's knowledge (I believe its a bit too chubby).

That makes sense but...it's not to scale.

I don't think they were bothered about that. The whale was one of the earlier models made and I guess they thought they might not sell as many if it was too big and therefore more expensive.
Back in the 70s it woud have been mainly kids buying them so there was quite a spread of prices for the models. I remember spending all my money on the Scelidosaurus, the Blue Whale and the Diplodocus cost a lot more as I recall.

I completely agree. Painted versions are nice, but not on my priority list. Does anyone know if all 23 were painted back in the day? I've seen alot all the painted versions pop up on eBay here and there, but not sure if all 23 figures all got the paint treatment or not. I don't think the Troodon and Lambeosaurus were painted, but I think the rest were. The Blue Whale was not painted. Mine is not painted.

Nice catches there Seijun! Always neat when you get the original boxes. Mmmmm... original boxes (Homer Simpson voice on that). And you got the little stand for the whale too! I just nabbed a Liopleurodon on eBay. So once that arrives, I'll be down to three left: the whale, Dimetrodon, and Lambeosaurus.

There is a painted version of the blue whale. Painted in what colors? Not red, I hope?

stoneage, you´re so cruel! Do you really need to show me all the painted ones I´m still missing?! Actually it was Seijun who posted my painted figures. I feel confident you can find all the colored ones still, if you really want them. I suggest E-Bay UK.

There is also a version of the troodon with a grey base. From talking to someone who has one, only the top of the base is grey (the underside is the regular brown color), so the top of the base was most likely painted. So if you want to get really technical about painted invictas...

I do believe I'm getting the painted Scelidosaurus in a lot I just won on eBay. It will be my first painted invicta, how common or uncommon is that one?

Well as you can see from the picture of my painted Invictas, there were at least two different painted versions of Brachiosaurus. The question is, were there more painted versions of their other figures?

The question is, were there more painted versions of their other figures? It looks exactly like the one in your picture, sorry for not being more specific. I guess I just figured it would go without saying that if I didn't mention the specific coloration at all the obvious conclusion would be that it is same as that in all the pictures I (and probably yourself) have seen of it.
