(Just as a random idea) what if a poll could be set up in the moderator lounge, and people could vote by sending in requests through mods who would then "vote" in the poll; and then they could announce the results when the voting period ends? That way mods could decide between people who have over 50 posts and people who have under 50 posts. Thats a good idea actually. They could judge which usernames are actually credible.

You can't really use figures that you don't own in the dioramas orthocone, because the pictures of them wouldn't belong to you, and thus the rules would be broken... Yeah I know that. I could use the pics to draw plants from correct?

Again, you can use however many figures you want! Look in the various dioramas in the diorama sub board to see other people's dioramas.

I really like Sbell's idea. Seems fair, and secure.

I really like Sbell's idea. Seems fair, and secure. That's what I thought--but I don't think there is a practical way to do it (unless someone here is really good at creating xhtml code).

^ I was (and still am) put off bothering to enter again by the folks getting multiple accounts business that went on with the last one. That's why I probably won't enter either, Anyone can ask anyone to become a member and vote for their diorama. Only current members that we all know should be allowed to vote, or better still only members who enter the contest should get to vote.

/\ it was only to do with karma. We never had any issues with the voting, but thought it was something we should keep an eye on. If we wanted to get all elitist, we could set a ground rule for who gets to vote--has to at least be a Junior Member (however many posts that means, I think 50), for example; and, of course, anyone submitting a diorama (in case a new member comes in just for the contest). Then, no one should be able to just create an ID and then vote. And it would sort of set the idea that we expect the voting to be done by active members. I don't know how easy/hard that would be to set (or sell), though. Opps I missed this post, this sounds like the only fair way to do it.

I think just verify that it is indeed your intended contest entry and a title for it. Thats what i did.

Actually, now that I think about it, the only thing that would come out of something like the above suggestions would be more people NOT voting/entering.

I have to agree with Cordylus. Too many rules and regulations may in fact steer many away from entering the contest out of fear of simply making a mistake. There needs to be some method that possesses a firm security and a simplistic means of entering as well.

Just in case anybody is wondering, I'm not going to change the voting process. I'd like to think that the main reason people are entering the contest is to support the forum and have fun creating and sharing dioramas. Entry is free after all. I'm the only one losing out, so to speak, as I am donating the prizes and my time.
All of the above suggestion are worth considering, but they are ultimately unpractical at present and solve a problem that doesn't really exist. I will be diligently checking the IP address and email of every voter, just as I did last year, to stop obvious foul play.

Hm...Still waiting for inspiration... Look at paleoart, that always gives me inspiration In fact, the last batch of dioramas I did came from paleoart; Giganotosaurus vs Amargasaurus was inspired by luis rey, Acrocanthosaurus vs tenontosaurus was inspired by raptor red, and the pachyrhino vs. pachyrhino was inspired by walking with dinosaurs torosaurus fight scene
