Between the blooming Hawthorns on the right, and the Viburnums on the left, our walkway to the front door has become a veritable buzzing maelstrom of bumblebees, droneflies and honeybees. Here is a large-eyed bumblebee that is a particularly loud and active miner of nectar: Another view - this guy dove right at the camera lens so the pic is a little blurry. Still pretty cool, I'm not sure what species this is, there are many smaller bumblebees half this size with normal eyes. Any entomophiles, help me out here! I'm pretty sure they're not carpenter bees, but am suspecting they might be cuckoo bees, Psithyrus?
