Okay, I promise, I deliver, Oy vey. This is the only decent picture of (one of) the delightful little rascal(s) I have managed to take. I'll call him/it Brendalet1. They are all discernable, believe it or not, by color and behaviour. Some are shy, some are pushy, some are darker, lighter etc. They are all very cautious, which is good. I enjoy watching them but when I try to take their picture they scamper but good., This one was overly tempted by a soggy french fry. I actually took this photo a few weeks ago, I estimate B1 is about the size of a Chihuahua, or small cat. Please, everyone, let's have a collective "Awwww"! ;D I guestimate it's 4-5 months old..

Gulf Fritillary, Agraulis vanillae, on Lantana. Orange on top, silvery on the bottom, this beautiful nymphalid is common here, esp in the fall. The reclusive and seldom-seen Carolina monitor Varanus carolinensis, attracted to a rotting opossum carcass (just out of picture).

You have a rotting opossum carcass within the vicinity of your garden...
Has the monitor made short work of it since? ;D

The carcass is small, and the wind blows away from the house! ;D

Aw man, I'd love to see such cool animals in my backyard! You do realize how lucky you are for getting to see such creatures up close at home, right? And please tell me this wildlife is protected, it would be a d**n shame to lose it...

But I might actually do this, you know. Be prepared for such delights as woodpigeons and the 'frog mummy' we found in our conservatory...
