Congratulations to the winners! I didn´t do a diorama this year, I had a few ideas, took a few shots but none of them really convinced me to participate. I was pretty mainstream in voting, taking the first three places as my favourites, too - without knowing they´d win in the end. My third place was the burning Triceratops. skeletons. All the others did a great job, too. That volcanoe was quite cool, and the Papo Allosaur chasing Bully Apatosaur on the beach was quite exotic as well. Had kind of a "Lord Of The Flies" - feeling to it somehow. "High Water" was a high light as well. Fourth place for me. Not that many non- dinosaurs this year, only two (Brontoscorpio and Postosuchus). I was looking forward to seeing some prehistoric mammals, too. I hope next year there will be some around. Thank you to the hosts for organizing this DTF flagship!

Very good job to everybody who participated! There were many different styles of dioramas here which made it difficult for me to vote. Some were out in the woods, some were entirely made up at home, etc. I found myself liking the ones made in the woods more than the ones made at home, I don't know why, but those are the ones that I voted for (no offense to anybody who made them at home! ). I ended up voting for Dinner's Served, Hidden Terror in the Badlands, and Hidden Hunter. Actually, now that I think about it, I might just have a preference for theropods ;D I really love dioramas taken out in nature, in places that really seem like a dinosaur could be there. I did #11 - 5 votes? What?! ;D I'm also surprised that more people didn't do a non-dinosaur diorama - at first I was going to do a diorama between my kaiyodo eryops and a dimetrodon, but I thought it would be too similar to another published diorama of mine so I made one with the Carnegie Spinosaurus, Carnegie Deltadromeus and the safari Coelacanth.

So you don't like indoor dioramas with volcanos? If only I had known. I liked your diorama except that the coelacanth seemed way to large in proportion to the Spinosaurus etc. I know that Coelacanths are often talked about as a Spinosaurus food. But I wonder with the Coelacanth having skin that exudes an oil which gives the fish a foul taste if Spinosaurus would eat it. I thought maybe this was yours but the black and white Stegosaurus with footprints also reminded me of some of your earlier dioramas.

Oh no, I liked it - I liked them all - I just like the outdoor ones more ;D I know that as a coelacanth it is too large to be with a spinosaurus of that size, but I figured it could stand in for another member of the coelacanth "family" (can't think of the name for the group at the moment). Crocodiles who have the same niche as spinosaurus did don't seem to mind how any particular food tastes, so I don't see a problem there ;D The only inaccurate thing about it I think is that the "cliffs" of dirt on the other side of the "river" in the diorama wouldn't have been able to support themselves at larger size.

Modern coelacanths may have that oil defense but who knows what they had or didn't have back in the cretacious.

All the ones you voted for did have something going for them though.

Hey, congrats to all the winners and to all who entered!!! I found it really tough this year to chose. Everyone brought something very different to the table. I could have easily voted for twice as many as the three we could vote for.
I ended up voting for #12 -- "The Bully Boyz" for 1st place. Amazing details and customs in that dio! Can't wait to hear all the making-of details!
Then for second and third place, I really had a hard time choosing.
I finally chose #4 -- "Dinner's Served" because I thought the Stego's wounds looked really convincing, hehe. And, I liked the look of it, with the Allo seeming to have charged out of the bush to ambush the little Stego. Is that a WS Allo? I'm not really sure. Looks cool though!
And I also voted for #10 -- "Sauropod Elegance." I just really liked the simplistic beauty of that huge beast seen from that angle. It almost made me think of what it might have looked like looking up at that massively long creature and seeing the neck and head taper off into the far distance. The pic really fooled the eye into believing you were looking at a massive live Diplo and not just a model. Good job!
But like I said earlier, I could have easily included many others. There were some really great ideas and artistic shots to choose from. Some of my other faves were #1 -- High Water (What Ceratosaurs did you use or customize?). Stoneage's #5 was really cool to look at -- great colors in that pic! #9 -- "Mother Nature Did Her Job" was tragically beautiful. Cordy's #11 told a convincing story. I kept going back and forth between voting for #13 -- "The Hidden Hunter" and #4 that I ended up voting for, they were both so close to my liking. #15 -- The Rite of Spring was really well done - great imagery! I really liked Boki's #14 with it's simple but beautiful imagery. I think the only thing that stopped me from including it in my three votes was that they all looked exactly the same, which didn't make it as realistic for me. But, also great imagery was created there.
Anyway, I thought everyone's was very interesting and creative. Good job to all who took the time and effort and entered! And thanks again to Adam and Cordy for your time! Too bad I wasn't around to do one this year. I had a blast creating one last year and I'm definitely looking forward to entering one next year!! ;D

i was number 2 a walk on the beach. No surprise there. not bad for just having a small bowl of sand no backdrop and shooting indoors.

Like most of you, I also voted for # 12 The Bully Boyz. It is the classic definition of a diorama: everything is made, from the plants to the customized repaints of the figures used. So much worked had gone to produced such dramatic scene. Congratulations. This years entries had so much to offer: artistry, compositions, story, originality, etc. that it was hard to pick the last two. I ended up voting for #13 Hidden Hunter, really like the composition on this piece. I also voted for # 15 Rite of Passage for its stunning composition and black and white effect. Great job everyone! As for mine, I was inspired by nature show footage of giraffes crossing sand dune in Namibia that I recently watched. I was struck by the simple, yet very dramatic image of this animals against huge and impressive sand dunes. Unfortunately, I was limited to the number of figures I actually own And I refrain from photoshop ( I still have scars from last years fiasco ;D). Wish I had the time to repaint the figures. But yah, the identical look of the brachi was the one thing that I was not so happy about. I actually did a series of dioramas inspired by the desert which I will post one of this days Libra: I considered entering a non-dinosaur, a procyno (from you ;D). But my love for sauropods won ;D I promise I will post that diorama just for you, so stay tuned
