An in-progress sketch of mother and youngling Apatosaurus; a gift for Pilty for letting me buy something scarce from him a while ago at a very generous price. The mother does not have a forked tail; I was just trying to see which position I preferred. The resizing has wreaked minor havoc with the quality again , but well...

Dang Niroot, that's pretty good! I think the upward position is the better one.

Thank you so much, folks. It will be inked in eventually, but I often like my sketches as much as (if not sometimes more than) my finished pieces, so I thought I'd share this stage too.

Great work as always, Niroot! At first sight I thought - hey that looks like the Antediluvia Apatosaurus (and more gracile than the Sideshow) but in fact the pose is only superficially similar. Well, maybe it's because you'd already be on par with D. Krentz if this was a sculpture.

Although I wasn't making a direct drawing of the model itself, I did indeed use it as part of my reference. I have the deepest respect and admiration for D. Krentz, but I could never be on a par with him.

The sketch is fabulous Niroot, I love the birds as well Looking forward to seeing it finished. Regarding the tail, you've probably already decided which way it will go, but I prefer it going down, it seems to balance the picture nicely that way, maybe.

Thank you so much, Harriet. Pilty has decided he prefers the drooping option, so I will indeed be choosing that.

I liked the 'fork tail' ;D (but yes, do get rid of it!) Are you planning on adding any spines down the back? I know it's almost become cliché now but they do look cool. Up to the recipient I guess.

I tend to prefer sketches as well for mine own work...I have done ink but just can't into shading with it as much.

Yay, Dan commented. ;D Thank you. ^_^ I liked the 'fork tail' ;D (but yes, do get rid of it!) Drat. I had so set my heart upon keeping it forked. Are you happy now? ;D Are you planning on adding any spines down the back? I know it's almost become cliché now but they do look cool. Up to the recipient I guess. Pilty prefers no spines. But if I were drawing for myself, I probably would have added them, as in the little one on the top left here.

I love seeing your beautiful artwork everytime I visit this thread, and words cannot describe how amazing they are~
If I were half as good as you, I would have easily chosen the path as an artist rather than wasting my time in graduate school to get a PhD.....

Oh, that's so very kind of you, Dyscrasia. I hope you don't consider your PhD as a waste though. I often wish I had more opportunities to pursue my studies further. I still wonder if I may someday.
And from what we've seen of your older drawings, there's no question that you have heaps of talent and skill. I think it would be wonderful if you picked up drawing again. I know many of us would love to see more from you.

Is 'Pilty' also going to make you write 'Brontosaurus' on there? By the way, I like the addition of the banding at the end of the tail.

Thank you. It will have other additional markings when completed. Probably not unlike the ones on the Olorotitan, I think. I seem to be fond of what I call the 'dappled leaves' sort of pattern. I have in fact been referring to them as 'Brontosaurus' in conversation with him, since he prefers it. (I should have been a diplomat, huh? ;D) Though I doubt he'll want any writing on the drawing. ;D
