Hi, I wanted to show you my new finished sculpt, a rugops in 1:18 scale. It is an epoxy work and was done using a styrofoam core.I am really happy with this one, I know it is not as good as the sculpts from the professionals who post their pictures here also, but I try to learn with every new one and I don´t make any money out of it. So here are some pics with different lighting: I didn`t paint it because I don`t really know the techniques to make it look realistic and I think the grey looks not that bad. So here are some pictures of the head from both sides: Some pictures of the legs: Front, back and upper side: I made this one in one and a half week, sculpting four hours a day, so it takes some time and I guess this was my last work for the next months. I also wanted to show you some pictures of a suchomimus, sculpted with epoxy too, that I did not made, but my brother did, so I post it for him. The suchomimus is not as large as the rugops, so that is what made it a little difficult to sculpt and my brother told me the next time he would make it larger so that it becomes easier to add all the details.I think it is a beautiful sculpt anyway: A picture of the other side: and a closer view: I hope some of you like my work and thanks for watching the pictures! ;D

Awesome work ! Have tried submitting pics of these guys to Mike at Prehistoric Times Magazine ? I'm sure he would add them to the mag.
You and your bro should really consider molding and selling these as kits as well.. ;D

I think they're both beautiful! Both you and your brother are very talented indeed. I agree with Blade; perhaps you could try submitting the pictures to Prehistoric Times; and one day when you feel more confident, cast your sculptures for sale too. ;D You could also cast just one or two copies for yourselves first and experiment with painting one of them if you are unsure about painting the original.

Nice work I love all the intricate details with the wrinkles and the scales.

Wow, you're doing real good with this, I notice you have a different style with the epoxy compared to the clay, more detail.

Wow, thanks for the nice comments! I thought about making casts of these, but I am not familiar with these techniques and I am a little afraid that it could maybe damage the original sculpt, especially the teeth. Some day I will try to cast my sculpts, maybe someone is even interested to buy one As you told me about the prehistoric times magazine, is Mike a member of this forum?Do they often have pictures of self-made sculpts in their magazine? Sorry that I don`t know much about the magazine, I think it is not available in germany, but it would be nice to see my sculpt in there someday.

Wow, these are both beautiful sculpts! I also think you guys have a future in this as well. Your Rugops easily blows Procon's away! I really like the details you guys get on their feet. Nice jobs, both of you!

Perhaps you might be able to find a professional caster who could cast them for you? Though now you mention it, there is a possibility that the original could still be slightly damaged even when professionally done. Sometimes it is unavoidable, unfortunately. However, if you do make several casts, you will still have an exact replica of your original sculpture to keep untouched. I know this won't feel quite the same, but it is something. Prehistoric Times ( www.prehistorictimes.com/ ) accepts and publishes artworks accompanying the articles (without payment, though artists often feel a good deal of prestige and other things may result from it ). You could try contacting Mike via the website and send some pictures of your sculptures which he might keep on file to use when the dinosaurs in question get featured. Or you could check this page regularly for specific artwork requests for forthcoming issues: www.prehistorictimes.com/nextissue.html .

What he said.. ;D It's true even with perfect casting the orig sculpture is usually damaged..but then you have plenty of casts to work with. A pro caster would be the way to go..you search around and find some online...I believe Mike Evans of Alchemy Works is one guy a lot of dino sculptors use for casting. thealchemyworks.com/Mike is a great guy, you can email him explaining you and your bros work and send pics like those posted here and he can use them for articles, the gallery pages , or even reprint the email with the pics. To get the mag itself you might have to subscribe..I know he has a lot of international subscribers but not sure if available on the shelf. If it is, try comic shops or book stores..they might be able to order it if they don't stock it.

You might like to try finding a caster closer to you in Germany first, of course. That should make things considerably easier too. ;D

True, try looking through model kit builders websites there...they should know if there are any. Finding local talent is sometimes difficult though... lol

I think that I will try to cast my sculptures in the future, so the tutorials here and on other sites on the internet should be useful, but to be realistic, I think this won´t happen until next year.Although I mentioned before on this thread that I will take a break for some months, I just decided to start a new project, because it is just to much fun for me to sculpt.Hopefully I will get this done, it should take some time because it includes two different dinosaurs, so I don´t expect to post pictures of it the next time.
