1/12th scale Velociraptor posable kit -FINISHED!

Here's a look at the progress of the current project, my first posable kit- 1/12th scale velociraptor.

Here is the initial rough out in castilene:











It's in scale with 6" action figures -in case any of you own any .




And here some recent pics. I molded the rough sculpt and casted it into wax, which is strong enough to keep the articulation in place. The articulation will consist of simple snap-in ball joints, which have been added at this point. Still need some clean-up, but you get the idea.















It was hard to set up for photos since the joints are somewhat loose at this point. Once it is cast into resin it will be very sturdy and will come with a small base which can plug into either foot for one legged poses.

I'll update again once it's finished.

Thanks for the responses guys.

The project is nearing completion and I expect to be finished with the sculpt sometime this weekend. In the meantime, I do have a price for this one- $45 each.
It is a bit more than I expected, but this one will need to be molded twice- once for the initial wax sculpt, which will be cast into resin and refined so that all of the joints are tight and can hold poses. Then once these modifications are made an additional final mold will be made.
This project has been more less an experiment for me. I do plan on doing more of these in the future, however to avoid the double molding issue, I plan make a parts library of resin ball joint fittings which can be inserted into the sculpt instead of relying on the sculpting material itself to handle the stress of the joints. This will help reduce the price of future posable kits.

Just finished the sculpted parts- final cleanup and fits will be done on the first resin cast. The parts are very fragile at this point so I decided not to build the whole dino.









I can't wait to pose this thing out.

A Velociraptor's tail is quite stiffly held, no? Another joint might render it rather too snake-like, perhaps? I think it's great as it is.

I would have liked the tail more snake-like. I know it's not realistic, but it is an action figure.. I thought it was a little strange looking have so many joins on the body and then getting to the tail, nothing. Just my personal opinion. I think it looks very neat as well. I want a supersaurus one. Please?

Alright so here it is- the final version of the velociraptor kit. It took longer than expected- it actually took about the same amount of time to complete as the much larger, much more detailed Acrocanthosaurus. But it was good expereiece and I've learned enough this time around to to it much faster next time.
