Unless this is meant to be deliberate JP style for JP fans. His really large rex resin is a JP rex. True, although there wasn't a therizinosaur in JP. Maybe it's for 1990s nostalgics..."There aren't any feathered dinosaurs, they're all fakes, I preferred how they looked when they were all scaly, rah rah rah!" ;D

He has a LOT of JP pieces..but this one wasn't mentioned as one of them. I asked him about the " horns " over the eyes and he suggested I look at modern varanids. to find the reason...having owned two diff species in the past I can't recall ever seeing those. Anyone know what species he's referring to ?

Raul Martin used to illustrate tyrannosaurs with 'JP horns' (or should that be Hallett horns?) all the time...but he got over it. See Sid's signature for an example (that one even has pre-Sue arms). Now his tyrannosaurs tend to look more like this T. rex: www.raul-martin.net/raulmartin/cuatro/tyrannosau_pai.jpg. Which, by the way, is bloody awesome. I want a print...

I printed out an 8x10 version of that and framed it..lol I've tried several times to get in touch with Martin about prints with no luck.
I know one of Galileo's main inspirations is Tyler Keillor as well..his tyrannosaur reconstructions have small ridges over the eyes..but just not the extent they resemble a carnotaurus's " horn " .

I think is fairly reasonable to assume they had some sort of extra scaly structure not only over the eyes but also over the rest of the head. Maybe not as pronounced as the JP angry eyebrows though, which are meant to give the head a bulkier and evil look. It happens in most of modern lizards (and birds). Just imagine how we would reconstruct a crocodile if we only had its skull and never have seen one.

I guess it's possible..but odd given his previous Tyrannosaurs don't sport them .
