A proper distraction Gorgosaurus has been watching this herd of Parasaurolophus for days and has yet to find a good chance to attack. The herd leader is a tough one, the veteran of many encounters as her scarred hide can attest. She is ever alert to danger running Gorgosaurus and his ilk off more than once..he himself has suffered several broken ribs on account of her fierceness and determination . He has noticed one flaw in her however..when a predator attacks she rushes head long into the fray with no thought to herself or the rest of the herd. This single-mindedness he believes can exploited to his advantage. He lurks as close as possible out of the wind and concealed..awaiting a proper distraction.

Very nice! I like the details in the dinos and the vegetation ;D interesting background story too...
I donĀ“t think small dromies would seriously dare to attack adult duckbills (even in packs) , but anyway, great job.
I specially like the expresiveness on the herd leader face! yep he is definitely a bit upset...lol

I actually excited myself writing that..and of course I never mentioned the dromies in it..I had people asking..uh..those little guys are Gorgosaurs or something ? lol The Gorgo almost gets lost in the background..which is exactly the point. I guess I didn't make it obvious enough, the dromies are after a juvenile Para, it's in the closer to you and still a lot smaller than the herd matriarch or the adults in the back. They not getting away unscathed though..one has already been rolled over has a broken tail and legs..it's just raising it's head and trying to squawk a warning to the others while blood drips from it's mouth..it's obviously suffered a pierced lung and won't live much longer. Dromies are often though of as the smartest Dinos.. but of course yours and mine recent images here seem to show the opposite..at least at times.. lol Thank you, I've been trying my best to get expressions down ever since ready Mike's Dinoverse books..his were quite expressive in there..and of course Gurney's dinos are often subtly expressive...another source I've looked into a lot.

I must say, it's wonderfully refreshing seeing herbivores with the upper hand in Arioch's and your recent pieces. Though perhaps in this one, that might change pretty soon...! Do I detect some Sideshow Parasaurolophus reference?

I love it! The detail and workmanship is excellent, but I think the best part is the plotting. You really get a sense of the drama that's going on, and you can just tell that every animal has a role - there are no random bystanders just hanging aimlessly around.

That's one thing I love..that dynamic between the " characters " you get a sense of what's going on..but the final out come is left to the viewer. It's rare I get such a piece even when trying..I'm glad you all are getting it and enjoying it so much !
Niroot , it is quite possible I used the Sideshow piece..it and the other pieces are right near the chair I draw in. I'll stop and look around quite often for inspiration and what I see and interpret does end up in my work often..though I detest outright copying so it will have hints but it's entirely my own... ;D

Oh, absolutely. I wouldn't ever suggest at all that anything was directly copied. I use many reputable illustrations and models as references all the time and have a number of them in front of me for any single creature I try to draw.

That was a good eye you have there..I'm just seeing it myself now, I must have drawn a bit from it... Aye, that's where my collecting habit comes in handy..I have plenty of references to draw inspiration from ! ;D

Blade, I not only didn't know how good an artist you are, but a great story teller as well! Good job, man -- really enjoying these!! Thank you very much, I dabbled a bit in writing, even epic poetry, but just never got really into it. Most of my really detailed pieces like the one above have some story..I usually only describe the scenes though..this one I took a different tack ..I'm glad you all liked it so. ;D

So I'm starting the 1/1 Juvenile Spinosaurus I asked for assistance with in the Dinosaur topic . Here's my quick sketch of what I hope it will look like. I actually altered the front of the sail a bit because angled like I had it originally looked too much like a Suchomimus to me. It ended up being just over 10' long. I did the shorter snout , sail , larger eyes and even the hands a little bit to make it look less mature.

That looks promising indeed. I think the proportions are about right for a juvenile.
