Hi Im new here so I dont know if this is the appropriate section to post my topic, but ah well
I discovered Shapeways today and was utterly amazed. So after drawing (on paper) some Paleozoic creatures I went Google SketchUp 8.0 to make a 3D model but it was not a good program for 3D models of animals, etc, only buildings. So, what is the program that you all use for Shapeways???

I use both ZBrush (by pixologic) and Lightwave 3D. I use Lightwave for the basic base mesh and then sculpt it in ZBrush, then decimate and hollow the model and save it out as an .stl for Shapeways.
Its fun, hope to see your work soon:)

Mudbox is another decent 3d modeling program. These are not easy programs to learn though, you will not master it overnight. I tried zbrush myself and gave up after a week of making no progress. I suggest taking time to watch and read every online tutorial you can find

It takes dedication. I've seen even teenagers master such programs. If you put your mind to it you can do it. I look forward to any models you may print!

Im very happy with zbrush i would recommend you to give it another try. its strange the first 2 days but then its really simple. you can ask me your doubts if you want (im not an expert, ive been using it only a few moths)

I agree with you razh, Zbrush is a super program, I bought it two year ago, and its really top-notch software. We can sculpt anything we can imagine, it feels like clay and it behaves like it and sculpt, add textures, paint on it. You can render it and export the image to photoshop or take the 3D model into another 3D application. I would say its a professional and unique software for both 2D and 3D. make model | prototyping | cad files
