I just saw Eric's ammonite sculpture on Shapeways, does anyone know the scale on them? also is the Megacrioceras a devonian critter? could I modify either of them (the Megacrioceras or the Heteroceras) to look like a devonian specimen? I have both and they are Cretaceous. I think most Devonian examples are more tightly coiled or straight shelled. Also the head area doesn't look similar. If you can modify one of those then you could just make your own with sculpey or epoxy putty.

ahh, thanks again Paleoferroequine, I really couldn't find any info on the megacrioceras, that's a shame, but at least I know.
I suck pretty badly at depicting most things in a realistic way (I tend to fail at proper proportions or depictions), so I'll probably end up getting a proper devonian specimen from dinonike (depending on wait time that is).

Thanks razh! I'm currently waiting to finish the casting for my devonian inspired terrain (the main piece will be an aquarium safe resin piece that is painted in acrylic and sealed with a clear-coat) and I will have to wait for Shapeways to offer a secondary method for shipping, I can't afford the UPS charges for delivery and neither I nor my family have a credit card (bad credit for my family, and I don't want to risk gaining a debt for a credit card atm *lack of employment*).
I was thinking of doing the piece in either 1/2 scale of 1/3 scale, probably with 2 or 3 Pteraspis in a school, the rest hasn't been decided (but I would love any idea's for the other 2 types of fish to use, that goes for anybody!!! I LOVE SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAs!!!!!!11!!!1!!!).

But, the prices you see on Shapeways include the shipping so the $8.98 you see is the total, however you do have to order a minimum of $25.00 per order.

I realize that ferro, but unfortunately on any order over 20$ is open to extra fee's and taxes, if I made a 40-50$ order then I would probably see a 30-35$ EXTRA fee from UPS, so my total order would be close to 70-85$ dollars, not only that but UPS will ONLY accept a credit card for payment (something I don't have access too) so for now I HAVE to wait for an alternative shipping option.

Uh, where do you live? (I see now, Canada) At least in the states I don't pay any extra fees for UPS. A 40-50$ order would be just that, 40-50$, I pay no more. You are paying Shapeways not UPS, now you do need a credit or debit card for that. I know that import duties are charged to some countries but I didn't know Canada did. I will admit when I sent something to Sean Bell in Saskatchewan and was going to use UPS the fees were outrageous, I used USPS instead. But I didn't think Shapeways did that, If Sean is reading, I know he has ordered from Shapeways. But I do realize that without a credit card it would be impossible since they don't do C.O.D.!! Maybe a friend with a card could set up an account for you? You pay them and they order? That's all I got because waiting for Shapeways to use an alternative may be one of the longest waits you'll ever have.

I have received 2 orders from Shapeways, and both times I had to pay extra when they arrived--it varied depending on the original value. I wish people would stop using UPS; FedEx is just as good, or better, and charges nothing more than tax (if applicable). As for the credit card thing--I wouldn't know. It hasn't been a problem for me since I was 17 (and I'm substantially older now! ), If you are old enough, I suggest just getting a low-limit card (and ALWAYS pay the entire amount every month).

I stand corrected about Canada and UPS. Do they really charge 2/3 of the value? So what other countries do they charge extra? That does suck, guess I don't realize things aren't the same everywhere.

well the charges vary tbh, and it relies primarily on the cost of the order being delivered, I think the US has a 50$ limit before extra charges are made and Canada has a 20$ limit, so any order with a value over 20$ is charged (and from what I hear, they will sometimes still charge items below 20$ depending on the item description).
UPS really likes to get as much money as they can from their clients, which is basically where the additional 1/3 of the total order price comes into play (a good friend of mine even has a nasty horror story of ordering a trinket on ebay for around 5$ and when UPS delivered they charged him an additional 11$, almost twice the items original (shipping included) cost).
I'll wait for a couple weeks at most for shapeways to offer an optional shipping option before I either man up and get a credit card or I'll try and find somebody to act as intermediary *shrug*.
