After acquiring the fabulous Colorata Coelacanth, I started looking at others from different company. To date, my collection is small... but again, how many Coelacanth figures are there? Maybe some of you can tell me, or add photos of other figures here to have a better census of how many there are. They are cool looking figures, wish that there will be more releases. The two larger figures really compliment each other.  The Safari is not specific, so it can be safely assumed that it is the African species.  The Colorata figure is the Indonesian species. So we have two representation of the two populations.   In size, the Colorata and Safari are almost identical which is really nice. The Safari is grey/blue in coloration, and the Colorata more of a darker blue. As expected, the Colorata is better sculpted of the two, and it's also "fatter" ;D The two smaller ones shown here being chased by the larger figures are from the Yujin set.  In addition, there is also this beautiful figure from Epoch  There is also the Kaiyodo version,too, it's the blue one in the picture in the back. There is also a brown version. I have it, just can't find a picture of it.  You will also notice small blue Coelacanth on the far left, this figure is part of this set from Fame Master 3D Elasmosaur puzzle  Guess Coelacanth are popular menu item ;D...  So, there are a few out there. These is what I currently have, any others I should be chasing? ;D Till next time, hope you enjoyed the show! ;D |

I enjoyed the show and can´t recommend any more coeleacanths due to lack of knowledge about any other.

Of course you already showed some of the best ones, boki!  I only have two more:  Kaiyodo Deep Sea Odyssey Part 2  Colorata Endangered Species - Fossil Fish (older version, there is a newer version with a different paint job). Oh, probably the best one would be the big Kaiyodo Aqualand version, anyone here who has one? And - there's a free one (well, sort of, it's still at the cost of printer ink, cardboard, and most of all: patience! ;D), approx. 1:4 scale:  Available here: cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/3157/coelacanth/index.html |

I'm curious about the two non-bottlecap ones (the dark and light blue ones). They look like one of the Epoch sets, but not one I am familiar with.

I don't know. My boss probably doesn't know either. She has a friend in japan who sends her this stuff by the ton, from all different companies.

Judging from the bases, and the use of the same mold with two color variations, I would guess one of the Epoch "Earth, Account of Life on Earth" series. I didn't know they had a pair of smaller ones (I just received the surprisingly large Epoch Living Fossil one, but those ones are pretty small). |

Ah Thanks for adding those pictures, forgot about the small Colorata one. That last one looks wonderful At some point I will build the cardboard coelacanth. I already thought about it - if you don't print it in A4 or letter format but use a plotter and print it out in A0 instead you'll get an approximately life-sized model!   Sorry, off topic, but Andre, that scale dude in the picture - is that Andreas Köpke?! Of course he is! It's one of the 1/20 scale minimen, Helge has him, too. They also made Oliver Kahn but it isn't easy to use that one in photos because of all the miniature bananas flying around in front of your lens... ;D The two smaller ones shown here being chased by the larger figures are from the Yujin set. What's really confusing about these japanese manufacturers is that there are so many series where actually two companies are given. In this case I just checked, you'll find links to websites of both t-arts and yujin on the pamphlet. Could it be they were made produced by Yujin and distributed by Takara Tomy A.R.T.S? |

I am guessing that for whatever reason, your seller used a colorata base (they look like ones from the cats or dogs!). Both bases are from the 'Cretaceous Dinos Vol.2' box (Deinonychus & Futabasaurus) and I guess Boki just used them because he thought they might be more suitable for the chasing scene pic  . By the way, here's a keychain for my practicing room keys by A to Zoo  |
