I have to say--are you really going to paint the Battats? I think that there might be people on this Board that will stage an intervention and/or rescue to stop you. (Note: I am not one of them, but given that people pay 100s of $$$ for these toys, who knows how far people will go).

I have had them for hours now, they may have already recieved their base coats.... Then again, they may not. I do intend to paint them, but I am in no rush. I will take some time to think about what I want to do with each one. Remember, I collect for the quality of figure, not rareness I only wanted to see them, but I do not collect just because of the name stamped on the belly.

I'm sorry, CT, but I really don't like the paints on most of the Battats.
Also consider, most of these were DinoO's extras, and have a bit of chipped or scratched paint on them already. They are not mint. I think DinoO sent them to me to be painted. I do not know what is to be gained by leaving them unpainted, as I do not like them that way.
I will never sell them, and they are not mint, so what is to be gained? C'mon. You know you are all DYING to see a custom painted Battat. By me or anyone.

I'm certainly not dying to see a battat custom painted. I bet if it was in a different color, you'd end up painting it red and black like the current paint scheme. ;D I do think it would be cool if you touched it up and whatnot though. I bet you thought you would never sell your comic book collection either, but you did, right?

I sold the comics to please my then wife. I still regret that, but it helped the family in a time of need. All but a few of my figures are painted and heavily modified. What is that worth? Possibly. I already had painted the carnegie red and black, but then changed it to less resemble the battat. I do not like the paint. Is it just the carno you are worried about? She also sent me the battat pachy and ouranosaurus. They too will be painted. And, I will probably get a trade for paint deal that will get me the battat galli, and edmontonia. They too will be painted. I believe that is part of the point of that trade. That particular person wants to see what I do to the Galli. I am also repainting the invicta rex and megalosaurus.

You've shown the forum that you are an artist and not a completist, so go for it!

I'm going to log off for a while guys. Need to cook dinner. Lunch. Whatever.
I am sorry, CT, but the carno has received two good coats of base paint and is drying.
If y'all are thinking of any sot of rescue mission, I'm painting all the base coats. Nya.
Also, I'm moving.
To an undisclosd location. Yea, that's the ticket......

Are you going to paint or are you going to repaint the Invicta Megalosaurus and T-Rex? If you're going to paint them, that's fine, unpainted versions are everywhere, but if you're going to repaint them, you're going to ruin two great figures

They are unpainted invictas, and fairly worn ones at that, so no worries.
Do you mean t say my repaints ruin figures......sniff.

^^^No, I mean that the painted Invictas are very rare, besides, you wouldn't need to repaint them, since one gets the unpainted ones far more easily. But it's true, I wouldn't dare to touch the Carno (it's one of my favorites and I like it the way it is). I would paint a resin kit, but not an already painted figure Then again, it's yours and you can do whatever you want with it.

The painted ones are pretty hard to come by. As for the repainting thing, some figures you repaint are great, and some are not so great. Most of them are in-between, in the "nice/awesome'' range. ;D

That particular person wants to see what I do to the Galli. I am also repainting the invicta rex and megalosaurus. Please don't destroy any Battats! Actually I'm very interested to see what you can do with those Invictas. I was never impressed with the official painted versions. The all gloss paints and soft plastic were kind of ugly IMO. But the actual figures are loaded with detail. If you could bring some of that out, it'd really change people's perceptions of them I think. I'd love to see a paint job that really brought out the crocodilian feel in all those ridges and scutes. I think also think it'd be cool to make severe modifications to some of the Invicta's, like the T.rex, bring it up to date. It's something I've always wanted to do, but never had the guts. The sculpts are phenomenal, but if one could only find a way to split the toes into a tridactyl position and readjust the whole tail/body angle. I used to think about this a lot as a kid. How sad is that? Actually they have a larger model in the NHM that is very similar to the Invicta figure.

i agree that the battat is more realistic then the carnegie. i also agree that the battats should not be repainted from a collectors point of veiw. It would decrease their value drastically. I actually really like tetonbabydoll's work but these are highley sought after figures that are no longer being produced i would not paint them unless you had duplicates.

modifying the invicta might be difficult. Are they pvc, or regular plastic? If they are plastic, as I believe, heating them will only melt them. The toes are sculpted together. I could gouge out chunks to open them, but it would not look right either. The toenails, for example, would be missing or damaged.
I have not seen a painted invicta except in pictures.I like the look on most of them. I can't fix soft plastic, but glossy paint is easy. Just spray it with a coat of testor's dullcoat. This will turn the paint flat, and seal the figure, protecting it from scratches etc.
Sorry, folks. To paint or not to paint the carno is a moot point at this moment. I decided to go for it, partly because Susan also dislikes the paint.
It is not that I do not value your opinions, because I do. And, I totally understand where you are coming from, but I do not collect them for future value. I collect just for my own enjoyment, and paint them just for fun. It is my current hobby, and that is the decision I made. Sorry. I know it is a shock to many of you. Just try yo understand that for me, the Battat toys are just another line, like any other. They are nice, yes. But, I would not ever get them if I had to buy, I just don't agree with the collector's market thing/
That sort of speculative buying almost destroyed the comic book market, and so inflated the prices, that the average person could not afford to collect, let alone the kids for whom the comics were supposed to be for. But, after riding high in the 90's, that market deflated greatly, and many books, like McFarlane's Spiderman and it's many, many variant covers, became worth next to nothing.
I guess I feel that the "collectors" who buy up multiple items in the hopes of cashing in later, kind of sour the fun for me.
I know this will shock y'all to the core, but if I were to ever get that Battat diplo, I'd paint that sucker SO fast.....

It's not shocking that you decided to paint it- but you just completely ruined the chance of somebody else have a regular one.
