I do not follow that logic. Painted or not, I will never get rid of them. So how is anybody else's chance ruined? Are you implying that if I paint them then i don't deserve to have them? That is a little....harsh.
I will repeat--- THEY....ARE....TOYS. It is not like I am trying to re-cut the Hope Diamond or anything here.
If it is on my shelf, how would anyone have a chance at it? I will NOT part with it, so how would it be a shot for anyone to get it? So, by the same logic, how is any one affected if it is painted? It is still on my shelf.
I just don't understand......

Teton, if it was mine, I wouldn't repaint it. That is only because I don't like painting and because I'd probably screw it up.
It is, however, your battat dinosaur and you can do anything you want with it. Don't let anyone tell you that it is a bad idea, because it honestly depends on what you want. Maybe you collect dinosaurs for looks, not value. So, if your happy with the battat, that's all that really matters.

Oh, I'r sorry. I didn't mean to be harsh! I just meant that, if there was some freak accident or something, or maybe one day you did have to sell some things, it would ruin the chance for another collector to have a nice, un-painted one. Sorry if I sounded mean! ;D

Look at it this way. I have a custom painted Battat carnotaurus. One of a kind, nothing else like it. might that not one day possibly appeal to some unknown collector out there/ I have a whole collection of totally unique dinosaurs. Surely some of you can see the value of that to me?

^ I didn't think of that "one-of-a-kind" thing.

It's not shocking that you decided to paint it- but you just completely ruined the chance of somebody else have a regular one. It's not all about you CT So sound to me that you are jealous that teton got some of the figures you may be after. So he got lucky and he deserved them all. Maybe if you want to offer something in return instead of resenting the fact that he got some and you did not. You can be harsh sometimes, and yet you really don't put out much. Bottom line is the figures are all tetons, nothing you or anyone else can do to change that fact. He can do what ever he like with them. We all have different reasons why we collect dinosaur toys/figures. Some for the value/rarity of the figure, others to change them and make it more personal and more meaningful to them.

Not really jealous. I have those, so nothing to be jealous about. It isn't??? ;D Yep, considering he put the base coats on them already (right?). I am sorry I did not think of that. Do you mean custom-wise, or info-wise?

modifying the invicta might be difficult. Are they pvc, or regular plastic? If they are plastic, as I believe, heating them will only melt them. The toes are sculpted together. I could gouge out chunks to open them, but it would not look right either. The toenails, for example, would be missing or damaged. I have not seen a painted invicta except in pictures.I like the look on most of them. I can't fix soft plastic, but glossy paint is easy. Just spray it with a coat of testor's dullcoat. This will turn the paint flat, and seal the figure, protecting it from scratches etc. I know this will shock y'all to the core, but if I were to ever get that Battat diplo, I'd paint that sucker SO fast..... That wouldn't shock me... I passed on that diplo many times when I had the opportunity and the money. It's one of those I never had an interest in acquiring. Though I don't know if I could repaint a figure having paid such a premium. There are so many cheaper things to do first. The painted Invictas were made of a different plastic. It was softer, and I don't think it carried the detail as well. I don't mind gloss paint, it's just when applied all over a figure, it can be a bit ugly. Best to use both matte and gloss where appropriate to compliment each other. I have heard of people modifiying invictas, though I've not seen the quality of the results. I imagine it's not an easy job.

And, here's the thing. these battats were gifts, a totally unlooked for and unforseen occurrence, so I am not really out any money after painting them. I keep saying, I would not pay these prices for them. They are nice. So is the kinto apato. But that is all I will ever pay for most figures that are toys, except for the large carnegie sauropods. I just can't afford to. I am not trying to persuade any of you, it is already done, as far as the carno is. The base coats are dry, now I will think on the details of the painting. I used a med tan base, that will be easy to cover with any color.
This is a nice discussion though. I only really posted originally to say I was wrong to dis the Battat carno. It is REALLY nice.

Hey did you get one with symmetrical horns? The ones I've seen were all asymmetrical, but it may have just been a bad batch. Going from your pictures, the quality of the molding looks to be pretty good.

They all are asymmetrical as far as I'm concerned.

The hoens are even horizontally, but the left one is a little bit longer, and turns slightly down. The right one looks more like the carnegie's, straight out and up.

yea, I only mentioned it because the pictures make it look pretty good. Couldn't see any flaws.

I think teton has every right to paint his Carnotaurus - you have to admit, the paintjobs were generally not what made the Battats good, it was all about the accurate sculpts. Just make it look really awesome

It's your toy Kevin, you're entitled to do anything you want with it. I think I will also insist on the greatness of the Dinostoreus Carno

Yes, that model (though it's too pricey to be a "toy") is probably the best and most accurate Carnotaurus.
The Japanese tend to be really good at that -- most of my Kaiyodo figures have better and more accurate proportions than many museum lines over here.

I think most of US's toys are far better then Japans, Frances, or Germany's. Just look at carnegie, it has some of the most accurate dinosaur toys in the world. I agree that their statues are incredible though.

I think kaiyodo has the most accurate dinosaurs in the world, and they are in japan. Now, don't go saying that I like them the best ....
