Orthocone,,,were can i found ,,more of that mammoth? Here is a photo of the mammoth model that the above mold is for- it is actually a Rush Studios sculpt, not one of mine, it was sculpted by Roger Wlshlager-

You should use sculpey or Chavant.I see that you have some problems with the sculpt while molding, and it suffers a lot.Sculpey is GREAT for details, equal as Chavant or Roma.Try Super Sculpey Firm mixed with fimo! I do not like to sculpt in sculpey in such situations as these figures myself for various reasons- there are advantages to using the Roma clay that outway the minor retouching I have to do to the sculpt in between molding stages-

wow very nice mammoth,,,, what's the scale and is it to order??? Well the scale is 1" to the foot whatever that works out to-it was originally made for a project that never came to be- you can see the original preliminary drawings for this sculpt in the Rush Studios thread in the Art category- I do have the original Rush Studios mold and can cast them for collectors- PM me for details-

1" would be one inch. 1' would be one foot.
But of course you really mean approximately 30 centimetres. Makes more sense to us Euro-types.

Hi dinonikes, Its really a great stuff, the way you explained with step by step pictures is really awesome. Its very interesting and helpful for me. Thanks for sharing the valuable information. I am glad you or anyone finds the info in this thread useful- all artists, mold makers have their own techniques/methods, what I show here is certainly not the only way to do this. I actually dont always do things the same way every time either. I would update this thread more often, with other examples of approaches to mold making, if I had the time to do so. I have known a lot of artists through my career, and some seem gaurded in sharing info, not willing to share secrets, or tips. I am not like that, I would rather pass on any info I can to others who can put it to good use.

Love this thread!,, im so glad you shared some of your info! Ive been getting into my own sculpting and mold making for terrariums and aquariums so i would love to pick your brain some more!!! Ive gotten my feet wet with some rtv molds, latex rubber mold, plastic resins, and clear acrylic resins. Ive never accomplished a two part mold, and i havent gotten to do anything big yet cause i have yet to find a company that has a bulk size of RTV mold.
