This was brought up in another thread, but I wanted to see if we could debate this in a thread of its own.
The most popular Dinosaur seems to be poorly represented in all most all lines of replicas: the T-rex.
Papo has the best, especially if you want a good rep of the Jurassic Park Rex, a style that seemed to influence his rendering since.
Carnegie's Rex just seems to lack style and detail. I'm reminded of a doberman pincher, when I look at it.
Bullyland's Rex is just awful.
Schleich's Hunting rex isn't bad it has some style, or tried.
Battats (which I don't have) is very good.
Safari's new rex isn't bad. i don't like the color scheme, but it semms to play on the "walking with dinosaurs" rex.
Just curious to see if we could get a good debate going on this, and I would like to know what you would like to see in a replica.

I definitely think that the Battat and the Papo Rexes are the best ones ever If anything, I'd like another excellent replica like Papo's, except this time no JP influence ;D

Papo's is over rated--I would rather see them tackle some more unique ones (that new Allosaurus is a start). And what's wrong with the Bully rex? And which one are you referring to? The standard one? Yup, it sucks. But the Museumline one? Work of art (I have the older, grey one--I haven't decided on the new paint job that much). And at least it doesn't look like a JP figure.

For some reason, I don't like the Bullyland Rex *evades furious Bullyland supporters* Do 'vintage' versions count? I specially like the Linde Rex, much better than the 'Potbelly' Marx.

Yes, I have the older grey one, and even the new paint job doesn't help. Tail out, aside, It's ugly. It just doesn't do a great carnosaur justice.

But why is it ugly? It's well balanced, properly proportioned, fairly accurate. It looks like the animal should have--head alert, searching for carrion (since we know that's all they ate )

No real style either. And Rex's eat live lawyers, didn't you know that? Makes you wish they weren't extinct..LOL

Makes you wish they weren't extinct..LOL I've always attributed that to muscle issues--as opposed to the weird jaw configuration of the Papo, where the lower jaw appears to expand ABOVE the upper jaw, just so that it can articulate And I forgot about the lawyer eating--and also the pretentious mathematician stomping. Maybe trying to genetically engineer them back isn't such a bad idea.

I have the Bullyland T. rex, it looks better in real life and I like the pose a lot - that photo doesn't do it justice. The opposite is true for the Papo rex, which looks better in the photograph than in real life.
The Bullyland rex has a few problems - the bubbly skin texture and the lack or resolution in the details like the teeth and claws. Notably, the hallux is a bit too large and low.

And nobody seems to have mentioned the Sue Collection rex, as featured on every page of this very forum:

As for Bullyland, I think their allosaurus looks better than their t-rex. I think Bullyland intentionally extended the hallux to provide more support for the legs so the dino can be more stable, and it works, a necessary adaptation.

It's not an insult, it looks good in real life too, but don't you agree that the photos look better? I'm pretty sure the above pic has been photoshopped at least a little.
I'm bearing this in mind for the Allosaurus...there are no sutures or imperfections visible in the pic, but the figure may be a different story?

The Thrasher rex from Jurassic Park/Lost World is also a great figure, the best from the JP series. It's not 'museum quality', but it looks better than say, Schleich's or even Safari/Carnegie's. Plus it's BIG ;D

Good call!
My thrasher rex blog entry (well, it's by the illusive 'deinosaur') is one of the most popular and pulls in a lot of visitors.

*Compares Papo rex to photograph* Hmm, in the photo there is some emphasis on the color contrast between the stripes on the back and tail and the background body color, which are muted on my rex. I like my rex's paint job better ;D

I think Bullyland intentionally extended the hallux to provide more support for the legs so the dino can be more stable, and it works, a necessary adaptation. It's a better small change than adding a mud foot, or worse, curling the tail. Much more subtle.
