If anyone was wondering why I was gone this past weekend (which I know you weren't ) I was on a dig to the Petrified Forest NP (legally, of course). While out there, I spent some time thinking about Chinle Formation figures, and decided there weren't enough of them. The only ones I can think of are: Postosuchus (WWD, WS 2009) Desmatosuchus (Scheich) Paratypothorax (Bullyland) Arizonsaurus (Bullyland) (actually from the underlying Moenkopi Formation) Rutiodon (Dinotales) Coelophysis (AMNH) Tanystropheus (Carnegie) There were plenty of large and interesting species (Rutiodon and all other phytosaurs, metoposaurs, rausuchians, aetosaurs, etc). Why are there so few scale models of these creatures? They would sell very well in the National Park, and would be quite interesting. Does anyone think this (or has anyone been to the park for that matter)?

Speaking as someone that is running a store that would like to see a lot more Tertiary stuff, the general concensus is perceived market. We could really use some big guys like brontotheres, early rhinos, various hroses, hyaenodonts & entelodnts (especially since AAA killed theirs), as well as Champsosaurs and other oddities.
I too feel that it would be a large market--most of the west of North America, from the Yukon south to New Mexico & Texas, has stuff from these various ages. They would sell well.
But the recent Wild Republic Sea Monsters failure probably points to the issue--we would all be interested, and those museums/areas would be interested, but the companies doing the producing want large, world-wide markets. A brontothere (or a phytosaur) won't necessarily have appeal worldwide, or even continent wide (again, this is perception). But a revamped T rex--again--is a near-sure thing. If you were gambling your money, where would you put it?
Safari is established enough to take a chance here and there, but others, like Schleich and Bully, are so far behind the curve it isn't funny. And Papo? Yeah, the sculpts are great, but there is a reason they have moved towards really pushing theropods for now--big scary sells. All this pipe dreaming of ornithopods and such won't happen unless they think that kids and the general public will be just as interested in duck-bills as fanged-toothed killers (good luck though).
Best way? Develop your own company and produce the more obscure things that you think should exist. I promise I will byu at least 6 of everything (because unless you go mainstream, the likelihood of longterm succes will be low, and those figures will be wirth a lot when the company goes under! ;D )
That said, I am still in favour of your proposal, and am pushing whoever I can for what I want.

In that case, would there be any interest if I tried casting a small run of dinosaur toys? I'm not promising anything, but there might be a chance

Sorry for the double post- Are there any specific Triassic creatures people would like to see?

You might be better off making them in resin..then other models might pick them up...offer a pre-painted service and there you go..

Yeah, I'd probably try resin and a few alternatives and see what works best. I'd still love for these to be playable.

Yeah Tomhet, I'd like to start with Triassic reptiles and amphibians. I'll put yours on my to do list! Does anyone have any suggestions on resin (or vinyl) casting material?

I would certainly be into whatever you can come up with.
Are you sticking only to Chinle? Or Triassic in general? Because those are two very different things.
A chasmatosaur, some cynodonts, therapsids and dicynodonts, rynchosaurs, Staurikosaurus and Effigia would be my suggestions. Plus look into some of the fish and sharks of the age (can't think of much specifically right now, except that there are several different lungfish/coelacanths)
