Question from the blog...thought I'd repost it here...can anyone help Nicole?
"Hello!
I am putting together a dinosaur kit for my students on Mississippi dinosaurs.
I have had difficulty in finding some of these unique dinosaurs. Can you reference me to anyone who may have the following dinosaur toys:
Saurornitholestes, Struthiomimus, Appalachiasaurus, Hadrosaur (Lophorhothon), Nodosaurus
I investigated Safari toys, but they did not have these items.
Any recommendations?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated."

Struthio could be found from Tyco..just the figure itself for around 10-15.00... I'm not sure what Lophorhothon looks like exactly..but if it's a Hadrosaur you could prob find something close to it...same goes for Nodosaurus I believe.
Saurornitholestes could possibly be replaced with smaller compy-looking figure or perhaps a ceolophysis... :?
I'd like a replica of Appalachiasaurus myself..lol..but from what I gather it was a type of small tyrannosaur...so Safari does have several it could be replaced with.
Problem is most of those are new and unknown to the masses dinos...procon might make some of them next year..but that's a gamble and a wait.

Some of these are known from incomplete remains, and unlikely to have models. The best thing to do is go with similar forms. So for Appalachiosaurus, you could use the Carnegie Albertosaurus. Saurornitholestes was a small dromeosaur. There's probably something in Safari's feathered dinosaur tube that would make a good stand in. Lophorhothon, you'd best seek out one of the crestless hadrosaurs. Unfortunately most of the toys chose the crested varieties. Maiasaura isn't ideal, but might be the closest thing available. There aren't many Nodosaurid toys. One I can think of off hand is the Schleich Edmontonia, but I believe Nodosaurus was more primitive.

From what I could quickly find, Lophorhothon may be a basal hadrosaur, similar to an iguanodont. So something along those lines--keeping it small, of course, if scale is an issue. Safari has one, but it seems too massive. Too bad the Schleich Edmontosaurus and Iguanodon are discontinued. Same with the Anatotitan from the Sue set from WS.
As for the Appalachiosaurus, the Wild Safari small rex is probably a good analogue as it is smaller.
For Nodosaurus, again, teh nodosaurs from Schleich have been axed, and of course the WwD one as well. The Procon Polacanthus would be at least representative of nodosaurs. Or, if she can find it, the AAA Edmontonia is a pretty decent figure--I have one, it seems pretty good, not overly spiky or anything (might be out of scale with the rest though).

I think L&P still have the SUE Anatotitan if you hurry..

Or, having just looked--TGF has them as well for $3.49 (vs. L&P for $4.98)

Sorry..didn't mean to rant..when you mentioned it..I was reminded how much it bugged me.

Sorry..didn't mean to rant..when you mentioned it..I was reminded how much it bugged me. I have never ordered from L&P ever. Part of it is the 10%-40% higher prices (if Dinofarm, which is a brick and mortar, is cheaper, something is wrong); part of it is the outrageous shipping (and to get to Canada, I get to pay super premiums!), and part of it is the weird attitude I have received when I've been in contact with them. Also--I don't know why they have such delays. I got all of my Wild Safari (and Procon, etc) stuff in late June/early July--everything (inc. raptors and Giga) were in stock.

Any ol' Nodosaur will do. Just make sure it's not a polacanthid. The WWD ones, Gastonia would not be good stand ins. Anyone got a Sauropelta in mind?
