Hi there. I'm new to collecting dinosaur toys, and boy was I glad when I found this board. I'm already tired of people telling me to grow up :< I've been interested in evolutionary biology for as long as I can remember, and my main interest is mammals, though of course I like dinosaurs and other extinct creatures I'm a fine art sculpting major, and I've been working on a few small figures in Sculpey. Right now I'm trying to decide on a therapsid to sculpt. I really want to start making limited resin castings of my sculpts to sell, but I'll leave whether or not I should up to you guys, since you're the experts after all. Once I get some pics up, let me now what you think Also, are females rare here? I'm just curious. I've never met another girl who was as into dinos as much as me, lol.

Hello and welcome. I very much look forward to seeing your work. Don't be calling the members 'experts' now; you'll give us airs, and some of us have those in too great an abundance already. ;D (Oh, dear, I think I've been here too long ;D) The ladies here just tend not to make a fuss about their cleverness, that's all. They're much too sensible.

Hello, and welcome! I do think there are more male members on this board than female, but we're not exactly rare ;D I'm excited to see pictures of your sculpts, we all love artists here

Hello and welcome. There are actually a surprising number of women here - probably because we're dealing with science and nature rather than Dungeons 'n' Dragons (although, er, I'm not one of them)

Not to step on your toes Horridus, but I do enjoy a campaign of D&D or two myself ;D Though I much prefer homebrewed games

Hi there. I'm new to collecting dinosaur toys, and boy was I glad when I found this board. I'm already tired of people telling me to grow up :< [...] I've never met another girl who was as into dinos as much as me, lol. Very recognizable indeed I'm glad it's not as much as a problem anymore as compared to when I was a little girl. I don't get bullied about it anymore People now just think it's peculiar, haha (and to be honest, I kind of agree with them also - a bit). I guess it's also interesting that I, being quite a girly girl, keep a lot of my dinosaurs in the same closet where I keep my shoes. I also have quite a lot of shoes . It's a an odd combination ;D Welcome!

Are you kidding? It's seen as peculiar for me as a MALE to be collecting dinosaur figures...and I got bullied about it in primary school!

Maybe there should be a counseling section on this forum ;D I guess all of us, both male and female, have some experience with being bullied because of our deviate love of plastic dinosaurs.

It's all OK now...people see it as weird, but more endearing than anything...

Thank you all for the kind welcomes.
I don't get bullied necessarily, but while helping me pack to move, my mother thought it was ridiculous that I had my figures and tried to take them off of me to give to my cousin, who is 3. I was horrified, all I could think of was my poor Papo velociraptor getting his tail chewed off. We actually almost got into a screaming match over it.
Oh and, I'm a big fan of D&D as well. Now THAT I've been bullied for, lol.

Show your mom this forum! It should provide you with some arguments that collecting dinosaurs or clinging to them after the obligatory "dino age" is not silly after all. I´d like to see her stunned by all the pictures of collections (many of them by grown-ups, I might add) ;D

And then you can show her the links to the eBay auctions for Battat dinosaurs that sold for over $200! (and were originally $6 back in 1998) Welcome aboard!
