So I was gone overnight ( anyone miss me ? ;D ) , I had to help one of my cousins move into a new place in Lynchburg, VA.
Now I always strive to find something that suits my tastes when I'm shanghaied for a trip I don't want to go on ( I still have work on my Dinosaurs to do after all. ) but when I discovered just how close we were going to be Natural Bridge, VA and Mark Cline's creations I had to go.
A little backstory, I've seen Mark's work at a lot of Haunted Attractions and his dinosaurs in more than one docu, book, or such. I was really excited to see his creatures up close if not meet him personally...the guy's a work-aholic in the best sense of the word so rarely leaves his studio : www.enchantedcastlestudios.com/
We arrived yesterday in the rain only to learn the attractions didn't open til today..that was OK though..the town at first sight was interesting enough. Mostly made of up 3 buildings total ..a really huge hotel, a really huge gift shop ( more a gift MALL ) and the building that really tied it all in..a Wax Museum. Now far from looking touristy really...it was just odd..especially in the dark of the storm clouds and rain. Then it hit me..this looks an awfully lot like the town form the horror thriller House of Wax. Just creepy and cool !
Well we went on to Lynchburg and only got to go back early today before heading home. Admission was a measly 9.95 each , first we hiked up the trail to the Museum seeing a graveyard and Professor Cline himself in fiberglass form. We went to the Dinosaur Park first..it's a walk through all the exhibits and displays..much like Dinosaur World but with quite a bit of humor thrown in..I mean how often do civil war soldiers clash with Dinosaurs ? lol The Dinosaurs aren't entirely accurate..but I just love the retro-roadside feel of them... they are quite entertaining as well which is Mark's whole purpose. I've been to museums with accurate Dinosaurs that just weren't as fun as this.. ;D We Also went on a hunt for Bigfoot as a small side attraction with two rednecks..lol and then finally they Monster Museum itself. What a shock I had when Mr. Cline himself was there ! We talked and exchanged business cards..I really wish I had more time to speak with him..but it was pretty busy, we purchased a video of our trip though the haunt which was awesome ! And as we were exiting Mark appeared again and gave me a signed copy of his comic book, done about 4 years or more ago, drawn, inked and colored by him it sets up the story of Professor Cline's Monster Museum. We thanked him and left to head back to the car..only to find Mark running after us and wanting to shake my hand..we thanked each other and he was gone again..the man must never sit still..
Most pics are of Dinosaur Kingdom there are a few of the Monster Museum as well..you need to experience it yourself though..hopefully while Mark himself is there to lead you.. ;D
