I love it, albeit being so simple works as well or better than more complex schemes!

yep, it`s really a great model by Shane, but on the other hand - which of his models is not great? the pattern are "inspired" by Jurassic Fight Club Series.....

I like the overall pattern, but maybe it's the result of the flash..there seems to be a lot of area that could use more shading..the tail tip and feet look excellent..but I would have preferred to see some of those browns used over the whole body ..just my two cents.. ;D

do you mean shades between the scales or between muscles? learning by doing....give more constructive feedback!

A bit of both actually...mostly the muscles though. Your washes are doing a good job of bringing out the individual scales overall ..but your base tone , the sandy looking color, seems to almost be a 2D piece you air brushed over...you can can't really see all the folds recesses. It just lacks the depth and color I think. Might look better in daylight minus the flash ? I painted that way for awhile and just let the natural lighting do the shading work for me.

See if I can help. I think blade is saying that you might need some more washes/shading to bring out the details and to emphasize the muscles, wrinkles, etc. Is that right Blade? Attachments:

Thanks for the clarification..my brain is addled from all this haunt work..lol thanks Melissa and Blade ah, ok, i understand and i agree with you. The flash "destroyed" not many of the shade effect. a bit only... i think it`s also a question of the process, first i take a base color (maybe a desert color) the i highlight and shade the anatomic details like muscels and the i drybrush and wash to bring out the scales. the comes the pattern, i highlight and shade these also. at last i take a middle grey or brown to soft the complete model and i think this is the step who "destroyes" the effects. maybe i must make the highlights and the shades more intensive. ok, please forgive me my english i hope you understand me.

Certainly, I understand. It's a complex process..and always one of trial and error. If possible try setting the model in daylight and taking some pics..natural sunlight makes a piece look 100% better.
