Hi, all! I was browsing the web for reviews of dinosaur toys and whatnot and came across the Dinosaur Toy Blog and these forums -- very cool stuff. Anyway, I figured I'd swing by here and see if you all could recommend any raptor or deinonychus figures with some articulation (swivels at the shoulders and hips would be fine, though more is always welcome) -- basically something along the lines of the old Dino Riders and Jurassic Park figures. I've come across some Dino Dig Eco Evolution set that could be okay (though those seem kind of small and slightly lacking in detail), and I've seen a really awesome velociraptor by Toysmith with lots of articulation, though it seems a bit pricey for my purposes. Are there any others I should be looking for? (Or do you know of any good places to snag them?) Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Glad you found us Well, the Toysmith raptor you mention is presumably from the 'Carnage' series. They are quite nice, although the raptors (There is a Deinonychus and a Velociraptor) present some inaccuracies. What are your purposes?

I think you've covered all the bases. Not many articulated toys nowadays.

Welcome! Glad you found us Well, the Toysmith raptor you mention is presumably from the 'Carnage' series. They are quite nice, although the raptors (There is a Deinonychus and a Velociraptor) present some inaccuracies. What are your purposes? Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, those Carnage figures are awesome Toysmith ones I mentioned. I guess I should've said "for my budget" rather than "for my purposes!" I'm just a very casual toy collector and wanted to have a few raptors around for potential action figure comics, so I'm not all that concerned with inaccuracies. I also want to try my hand at an exceedingly simple Alex custom -- I basically want to get a raptor in the 5" range or so and make him some boxing gloves. I wouldn't want to use a Toysmith figure for that, though, since they seem a little large and the glove thing would probably ruin their wrist articulation. And yeah, Tomhet, it does seem that way. I do come across articulated tyrannosaurs, stegosaurs, and triceratops quite often -- and even spinosaurs, for some weird reason -- but hardly ever any raptors these days. With what JP did for them, you'd think they'd be all the rage even today! But I never saw JP3, so maybe it was so bad that it ruined their reputation. Or maybe the revelation that they had feathers has made toy companies less inclined to produce the JP versions for fear of being criticized by dinosaur purists... I remember all the flack that the post office got for releasing "brontosaurus" stamps.

Go find some JP1 Velociraptors on ebay. They aren't that expensive... There's variety in color, and shape. Usually excellent figures, though inaccurate.

The new Wild Safari Raptors are affordable..though not poseable..per say...they can be re-posed in a variety of ways with little to no real work..

stoneage: Ha! No, it wasn't in the middle of a lake -- there were two of them just walking along. ( Here's the stamp.) It was apparently the name alone that ticked everyone off! Some of the most beautiful paintings and drawings of that animal have depicted it in the middle of swamps, though. emperordinobot: It does seem like that might be the best option. I'll keep my eyes peeled for good auctions! Blade-of-the-Moon: When you mention reposing, I take it you mean positioning it in different angles, or are you talking about soaking the figure in hot water and adjusting the limbs once the plastic's softened? I think I'd be able to add swivels to the shoulders and hips if they stuck out enough for me to cleanly cut them away from the body, so I suppose something like that (or even some dollar store raptors, if I can find some solid ones) could work as well. Hm. Many thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

I re-positioned a whole pack of the WS Allos with the hot/cool settings on a hairdryer...I'm going to try to some similar work once I get some more Raptors. You could also cut the joints and re-pose them with putty and just use some basic modeling skills to fix em'.

Ah, yes, using a hairdryer also works well -- though since mine doesn't have a cool setting, I tend to use the device to heat things up and then cold water to set them in place.
Here's another question: what do y'all think of the Nature's Wonders Velociraptor? It seems a little small, but it's also just adorable. And how difficult is it to come by some of the Chap Mei raptors? Some of those look pretty neat too.

You can also use a fan or just hold the position and blow on it until it cools..lol..I prefer the dry methods since you never know when paint will run or rub off while drying... I don't think I've seen the Nature Wonders Raptor locally....but TRU , BigLots and Kmart carry some of the Chap Mei figures.
