Hi All, I'm still wrapping up the new Masiakasaurus fantasy piece, but in the meantime I wanted to show a new build-up by my new painter partner and friend, Matt Holt. Matt is an accomplished figure painter and has many years of experience painting for toy companies such as McFarlane Toys and Hasbro. He also does commission work for models and miniatures. Check out his Facebook page, 'Perfect Pigment' www.facebook.com/pages/Perfect-Pigment/144087755689097 to see more of his work or email him at perfectpigment1@yahoo.com if you have anything that you need painted. Matt has recently painted up my Saichania model here, and I think he did an incredible job. Take a look: Please contact me for a price list if you are interested in ordering a complete painted kit. I've separated the actual build-up cost from the actual paint cost so you can have the option of an assembled-unpainted kit or an assembled painted kit. Thanks for looking! Very cool sculpt, great paintjob!

He worked for McFarlane toys? Well that explains the quality of the paintjob... his skills are really superb. Is this resin?

Reminds me a little of the Hunter Clan Dragon..it had a kinda tiger-like pattern. It looks great though..Ankylosaurs are usually made so dark and drab..I like the idea they may have brighter as well.

Saw this on Facebook, and my jaw still hasn't recovered from that nasty fall to the floor. This is absolutely beautiful. Great to hear he does commission work. The both of you will be hearing from me in the near future, for an awesome buildup. Btw, thanks for the amazing work on the different Mcfarlane in-house lines. The both of you do fantastic work, and I can't give enough praise for it. ;D

Thanks for the kind words guys. Btw, thanks for the amazing work on the different Mcfarlane in-house lines. The both of you do fantastic work, and I can't give enough praise for it. ;D Glad you enjoyed those figures- it was a good experience for me as well. That's where I learned the skills I needed to do what I do now. These dinos that Matt and I are collaborating on I consider to be the next level of that line of thinking.

I concur with everyone else - this is a superlative job on a very nice model. A unique take IMHO, somehow has a Southwest flair, kinda like a Gila Monster on steroids. Very nicely done, Matt and David! I now have to seriously consider getting one of these...

Totally agree with all of the above comments. Beautiful sculpt! Beautiful paint!! I also love the fact that he comes off the base. About what scale would you say he is?
If this paint job is any inkling of future collaborations, I am so looking forward to more of these masterpieces! I hope to one day own a nice collection of your sculpts, David. You are definitely one of the best paleo artists out there today. Maybe even one day I could visit your studio, if that's at all possible. You're in Hackensack if I'm remembering correctly, and I'm in Jersey City. Not too far. Maybe a 30 - 40 minute drive. I'm an artist too (although not in your league!) and would find the process so fascinating.

Thank you all for the kind words. It is always incredibly fun to work on such superbly sculpted pieces. I am looking forward to working a lot more with Dave in the future and painting more of these bad-ass dinos.

The pic of it laying on its back... it looks so happy! Beautiful sculpt and the painting just enhances all of the details for the piece. Well done Matt and David on this incredible collaboration.

LOL- My studio isn't really much more than a few drafting tables (and some toys.) Just a small part of my apartment.
